Wuthering Heights
Heathcliff was to serve as both Christian name and surname for the ragged, dark-skinned child whom Mr. Earnshaw found abandoned in the streets of Liverpool and took home to live with his own children - Cathy and Hindley - at Wuthering Heights. The stormy life of the mysterious Heathcliff - his love for Cathy and his relationships with the people who lived at Wuthering Heights and at nearby Thrushcross Grange - make up Emily Bronte's classic novel. The narrative begins many years later when Heathcliff has become owner of both estates and a Mr. Lockwood comes to live at Thrushcross Grange. After meeting his handsome, morose landlord and experiencing a strange series of events during a visit to Wuthering Heights, Lockwood becomes increasingly curious about the background of Heathcliff. He enlists the help of the housekeeper and as the sotry unfolds it is one of disturbing passion and power. Cinemagoers may well remember Daniel Massey's performance in "Star" where he played the part of Noel Coward (who incidentally was his godfather) and in "The Incredible Sarah". Television viewers will recognize him for his part in "Road to Freedom". He is a member of prominent theatrical family.
