I feel the need to say that firstly, I've never played a Halo game or imagined that I would be reading a book about Halo. One of my coworkers insisted that I read this, going so far as to bring his own copy for me to read. All said and done, it wasn't terrible. It's an action book geared towards men, which I say because it's obvious any female character is made to love the Master Chief. Even an AI, apparently. It isn't the best written book I've read, but I give it some slack because, after all, it is a book depicting a lot of battles and talks about weapons systems, both of which I tend to steer away from in my reading endeavors. Even game of Thrones loses me in battle scenes. The underlying story, though overshadowed by the action, was actually interesting and there were brief moments of character building that I thoroughly enjoyed. Unfortunately, the author does not handle action sequences well, and has not yet determined how to have fluidity between these scenes. There are a lot of repeated sentences and scenes in the down time between fights. But, for someone who likes fast paced action novels, particularly about their beloved Halo game, I'm sure it would got over better.
