I read this book in three days. I simply couldn't put it away.Usually I'm not enamored of books written in the present tense. For me at least, they often come off as gimmicky at best, pretentious at worst. But Broadchurch had an immediacy to it that kept me reading. I didn't watch the series and so came to this relatively new, with one exception - I knew who the murderer was. I was reading an article on the television series and the writer revealed that information. Still...I was curious. So when I saw it on NetGalley I requested it. I'll tell you something, knowing who the murderer was made no difference. None. In the middle of the book I was convinced. Convinced that the writer of that article had gotten it wrong. There were no hints. At all. And when the reveal happened I found myself just as shocked. Asking all sorts of questions. Frankly traumatised. Well developed characters I thought. The victims' family just about wrecked me and that epilogue had me bawling. Highly recommended.

As a huge fan of the ITV series, I was equal parts excited and nervous to read this book. It's not the best crime novel I've ever read and sure, the whole mystery is solved by the first page because I've seen the show but nevertheless, I loved the insight into how the characters tick, especially Alec Hardy. It's definitely worth a read if you enjoyed the TV series.

received a copy of Broadchurch for free through Goodreads First Reads. Detective Ellie Miller goes back to work after a vacation only to find out that she has been overlooked for a promotion. Alec Hardy receives the promotion and quickly realizes that some communities like Broadchurch are not trusting of outsiders. He and Ellie have to start working together because soon they are faced with a murdered boy on the beach. Eleven year old Danny Latimer, is Ellie’s son’s friend and he, is found murdered on the beach. The town is shocked and everyone is a suspect in Alec’s eyes. The town has secrets and events from years before have resulted in the death Danny Latimer. I really enjoy this book and even though I already knew what was going to happen it kept me reading and I was hooked on this book and couldn't stop reading. It is very well written and I think if you like crime drama you will love this book. I give this 5 out of 5
