In Rombo, seven inhabitants of a remote mountain village in Friuli talk about the impact of the the 1976 earthquake that has left marks they are slowly learning to name.

Rombo

a people whose lives are embedded in the northern mountains of italy are shaped by its movements. the anti-thesis of promethean tales of human triumph over nature, exploring the crevices in which peoples lives are changed by forces outside of human control. as much as the mountains form the peoples dwellings (building materials etc) so too are they at the whim of the forces of wanton destruction, and as much as a map of human settlement and movement are through geological patterns and tectonic splits, so too are its materials for trivial human recording, nicely woven in in its description of "heliography" by way of exposing bitumen (extracted from the mountains) plates to the sun, capturing images of the scenery and of life. 

the prose is elaborate and captures the brutality and tenderness of natural forces.
