Gluten for Punishment

This was punishment to read. Something about the overall characterization failed to make me like any of the characters at any point in time. They suffered from too many small side characters and weirdly specific side plots.

Frankly I was hoping for a lot more, but even the end motive for the murder fell flat and felt more like a bad sitcom than even a typical cozy mystery novel. And, without any spoilers, I think the sheer number of characters diminished the impact of the final solution. I honestly didn't even remember the character by the end.

For a book under 300 pages, it felt very long and somehow unfinished.
