I Will Judge You by Your Bookshelf

Grant Snider2020
A look at the culture and fanaticism of book lovers, from beloved New York Times illustrator Grant Snider It's no secret, but we are judged by our bookshelves. We learn to read at an early age, and as we grow older we shed our beloved books for new ones. But some of us surround ourselves with books. We collect them, decorate with them, are inspired by them, and treat our books as sacred objects. In this lighthearted collection of one- and two-page comics, writer-artist Grant Snider explores bookishness in all its forms, and the love of writing and reading, building on the beloved literary comics featured on his website, Incidental Comics. With a striking package including a die-cut cover, I Will Judge You By Your Bookshelf is the perfect gift for bookworms of all ages.

[7.5 stars ⭐️.] It was weirdly a nice book, some of it was about books and some of it was about writing, though I expected all of it to be about books (given the title.)

This book is so cute and fun and relatable. As a lifelong reader, the ones about book obsession were my favorites. Several of these comics will be useful to English teacher me, too.

Started off very strong as an ode to books and reading, then trailed into a "writing is hard" complaint. Good enough, though, that I'll look into his other stuff. (Side note to all writers: yes, writing is hard. But so are many, many, many other jobs, most of them harder than writing. Nobody cares about how hard writing is, except maybe other writers who write about how hard writing is.)

This was a fun, quirky read and definitely relatable to book lovers. This graphic novel will appeal to readers and writers. But, since I'm not a writer I didn't find those sections as relatable to me. It is quite humorous and rather quick to get through. If you are both a reader and a writer this would be very comical to you and right up your alley.

A fun graphic book that all readers and writers can relate to. Are you in love with books? Do you often read in social situations? Do you like to sniff old books? And do you literally use anything and everything as a bookmark? Well, you will find that you're not alone. I didn't expect to see the second half of the book devoted to writers, which is quite eye-opening as I got to learn what it's like to be a writer. Definitely a good, relaxing read for book lovers out there! Your bookish friends will appreciate this book as a gift too!

A fun collection of comics that are sometimes poetry. An ode to the love of reading and writing (and judging how people organize their books).

This book was pretty cute! I liked it. It’s nothing remarkable, but it’s relatable. Personally i felt like it was lacking a little bit of substance. But I had a good time reading it. It was a quick read and I admit I skimmed a couple of parts.

It wasn't bad, but it was just okay. Yes, it's about books and I love books. But it was just meh.

- This is just so wonderful. - The art is original, colourful and insanely relatable. - I fee like I’ve found a little corner where introverts live with their books and satisfaction. And that’s all I’ve been searching for. - I screenshot so many of the pieces since they made me giggle or were extremely unique and thought through. - These are the sort of graphic works I would purchase and appreciate on my shelf. Which is rare!

This one has quite a few gems that I ended up saving on my phone because they were spot on and just perfection. Towards the middle and end it started to get a bit repetitive (or maybe I just couldn’t relate to some of this, so it could definitely just be a “me” thing) but overall I think anyone who is a lover of books would enjoy this and find some “omg same!” moments lol
