Northanger Abbey is a coming-of-age novel and a satire of Gothic novels written by Jane Austen. It was completed in 1803, the first of Austen's novels completed in full, but was published posthumously in 1817 with Persuasion.

No one who seen Catherine Morland in her infancy would have ever imagined that she was born to be a heroine. 

No one stared at her with rapturous wonder, no eager whispers happened, and neither was she termed a divinity. But she was looked at and admired, and two gentlemnen called her a pretty girl. Catherine found the evening pleasanter immediately, and her humble vanity was satisfied.
