Recently I read three books, two were 2 starts and one was a dnf. I was not happy, and I needed something to pick me up. Next in line was this book and I went into it with suspicion, fearing it would be as meh as the previous ones.

But from the first chapter I could tell this was different.
First of all, a middle grade??? This is no middle grade, the protagonist might be young but this is a very well-crafted story with so many themes and such lovely complexity that appeal very easily to an adult too.

The writing was absolutely great, I had no trouble imagining all of the worlds we travel too despite them being so different from one another.

And the story was great. I was enthralled and amazed by this world (or multiverse) that the author created. Flick was a cool character, it was easy to empathise with her and she was not spineless or whiny. I really enjoyed how she (view spoiler)[suddenly found out she had a lot of magic and managed to exit the reception world. (hide spoiler)]

Jonathan was interesting, he plays the part of an adult which makes us forget he is a teenager, so when he (view spoiler)[deceives Flick to get her to help him by not telling her she is special, I got so shocked. (hide spoiler)] I really did not see that coming.

The worlds we visit are so interesting, and so is the whole history of the society and how it works, down to the suitcases and the funny thing they do when you close them.

The ending was great, I was so glad that (view spoiler)[Greyson and Darilyn are ok, that Flick and Jonathan managed to trick the Thieves to jump in a suitcase leading to an island and everything is ok. But I am dying to know what is causing the schism and the imbalances in the magic, and Tristyan is definitely the guy in the pictures at the lighthouse!! I need to know why he is not there anymore (hide spoiler)] and what happened.

Flick was the best protagonist and her reactions were so real for a twelve year old. 
This book is a series competator for best Middle Grade book/series!
Really looking forward to the next books and Flick and Jonathan's following suitcase adventures!!

I really enjoyed this book because it is full of magic and wonder and friendship and it really gave me the chance to escape reality for a while.

I really enjoyed this a lot! It has brilliant characters and a complex but not confusing plot. I especially love Flick, she was courageous and bold but caring too. Really really good story.
