Roanoke Solving the Mystery of the Lost Colony

Lee Miller2002
The lost colony of Roanoke is America's birthplace and one of America's oldest mysteries. What makes this book unique is that every clue furnished by primary documents is treated as evidence. It answers the three questions essential to solving the mystery: Why were the lost colonists lost? Where did the lost colonists go? Why were the lost colonists never recovered?

Miller presents a compelling narrative using various pieces of historical records - including journals and court documents - to make the story come alive. While the evidence is strong for the version of events that Miller depicts, sometimes the facts become so cumbersome that the story gets bogged down in them. With many many names, conflicts, and timelines interwoven, the final story is both rich and confusing. While a little hard to follow at times, it is ultimately worth the effort just to understand the true history of the lost colony.
