This was definitely the best Lucy Stone mystery I've read yet, and I started at the beginning. She has a book dedicated to asking herself what she wants out of life, after working to fill in at the Pennysaver  when a woman is out due to family problems. She has a foray into finding out what working during the day means when she is also trying to be a good mother. Her husband Bill, on the other hand, doesn't like it and fights her every step of the way.

The murder mystery was a little more sophisticated this time around. We start off with a bomb at the school, and an amazing rescue by the newly hired Carol Crane after a child is missing. About a quarter of the way through, Carol Crane ends up dead. Low and behold, not too long after her death, people are finding out that she wasn't the lovable hero everyone was saying.

What I liked about this book is that Lucy finally has an excuse to go snooping around. She has some legitimate authority to investigate and is finally smart about it. While her relationship with Bill is rocky, and the times, a little hard to believe, I think that she really grew in this book, and I'll allow the murder mystery to be entwined with her personal life if this is how Meier will handle it. Definitely a good read. If you're starting the series with this book, it's a great start for sure.
