Perfect first read of 2020. Speaks to not only honoring the path of your true self, but how within community the true self flourishes, is fulfilled, and finds it true meaning. Great read for anyone looking for clarity, enlightenment, hope, direction, or some help off the ledge of the dark places in life. Provides real direction while addressing the realities of life.

Not at all my kind of book. I’m sure the author is a well-meaning, decent guy, but when his “slough of despond” comes at a time when people are begging him to join college boards of directors, the disconnect between his life and most people’s realities is just too large to ignore.

This book takes a clear stance on how we should go about finding our paths in the world. Your path might be a career or it could be a search for spiritual meaning. Though the author’s experiences are rooted in religious faith his writing focuses on the process and outcomes of human choices rather than any divine sources. I’m not interested in the religious aspects and I found it very much worthwhile. It’s short, more a series of overlapping essays than a straight through narrative but that makes it makes easier to process each chapter. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for perspective on making complicated choices.
