Sam leads a pretty normal life. He may not have the most exciting job in the world, but he’s doing all right—until a fast food prank brings him to the attention of Douglas, a creepy guy with an intense violent streak. Turns out Douglas is a necromancer who raises the dead for cash and sees potential in Sam. Then Sam discovers he’s a necromancer too, but with strangely latent powers. And his worst nightmare wants to join forces. This was a fun one. It's far from being a perfect masterpiece, but it's nice and hilarious enough to make you want to spend a few hours reading it. The writing is filled with sarcasm and it flows smoothly. Good characters too, and if the plot wasn't so weirdly constructed and vaguely rushed, this book would gain another star. I recommend it for younger teens who love spookier stories.

This wasn’t one of my favorite books but I haven’t given up on the series nor the author. I did like Sam and his friends but Douglas seemed like they needed a bad guy. He felt to me like the bad guy in the first Despicable me. I did find this book funny but I didn’t get horror like a lot of people are shelving this under. I didn’t like the back and forth between the characters. Maybe the second book will not really have that but I don’t know.
