!!!Warning!!! Spoilers!!! but since people who are not from Romania haven't heard of this book in their lives, Why not entertain yourself a little 😂🤷🏻‍♀️

This was probably the shittiest book i've ever (tried to) read for school. I know times were rough in the 40s but at least three (very very long) chapters were exclusively about this stupid man who beat his (very pregnant) daughter for having a child with the man she loved. Just because that meant they would have to get married and he didn't want to share his money with the baby-daddy, who was really poor btw. 

And if that wasn't enough, the only reason the protagonist (AKA the baby-daddy AKA Ion) got the girl pregnant was because she was rich and he wanted land, and her being pregnant would mean they would have to get married. In fact, he loathed her because she was ugly. Ummm okaaaaaay......

Like. How? WHY?? How can someone be so twisty and manipulative and evil?? I know arranged marriages were very common at that time, but this is some next level shit. 

Aside from this, the book was excruciatingly slow. Like, honestly, you don't have to describe every grass thread and cloud for me to get the action. 

1 star for the accurate depiction of countrymen's day-to-day life because the rest was absolute shit.
