Fantasy in all its splendour! If Titus Groan was the harrowing, gothic tale of power, its sequel Gormenghast is all about defiance, love, vengeance and freedom. Peake uses the wealth of language at his disposal to paint an unforgettable picture of the legendary castle of Gormenghast and its many characters. Steerpike's ascension and consequent downfall easily makes him one of the most interesting villains in literature.
