Very clever view on the Dutch imperialistic doings in Indonesia (then the Dutch East-Indies). Has a very unique use of the manuscript novel: it's about 5 or 6 levels and deep and it makes great use of this, mostly to show the contrast between the Dutch traders, and the Javan Aboriginals. Very influential in its time and still regarded as one of the best Dutch books ever.
