My 1000 Breath Journal My Personal Practice for Deeper Understanding Of

James Beard2018
During my travels promoting my workbook, Pranayama & Breathwork across the United States, I came up with a 1000 breath challenge for myself. It was inspired by 100 breath exercises in certain disciplines of Breathwork. Something I have come to terms with is, I am an extremist and I have been doing Breathwork since 1992 and conscious breathing since the mid-80s. So I get bored. The 100-breath exercise is nice place to start but my 1000 breath idea surprised me. One, because of its physical, mental and emotional challenge to make it to the end, 999, 1000. And two, because of the insights, clarity and fresh energy I came out of the 1000 conscious connected breaths with. They took me to new vibrational levels of being and connection to myself.I can probably assume you may not know what I mean by the words above unless you are a Breathworker. I am one. And I promote it because I believe everybody deserves to know about this profound and phenomenal practice and exercise called Breathwork. There are many definitions of Breathwork. But none of them really seem to make sense until you have your own experience. So, I will share my definition of Breathwork with you. Breathwork is a phenomenally, mind-altering, heart-opening aerobic, conscious-connected-breathing exercise or practice designed to help you understand and rectify your self, physically, mentally, emotionally, energetically, and spiritually. That is a mouthful and as you read it again it may stir a feeling from within that you can't quite place. If that is the case, be with it for a moment.I love my breath. It has been one of my main entertainments since I was a small child. Even in the middle years of my life, conscious breathing exercises are still revealing sub or super conscious pieces of my total self to be integrated into my presence. As I breathed each of the 1000 breaths without much expectation my ego was caught off guard. It had learned how to defend itself against my regular Breathwork practices keeping its-small-self intact. The 1000 breath practice was surprisingly pleasant and gave me a new appreciation for the power of our breath and challenge it is to stay focused on, what one may assume to be a simple task, counting breaths. It is my hope that this journal shines a loving light on the wonderful practice of conscious connected breathing and the healthy benefits Breathwork has to offer.Enjoy the journey.PS This journal is a guide that is taught with an experiential workshop. Hopefully it is also an inspiration for you to have your very own conscious connected breathing experience because it found a way into your life.
