Nora Ephron has proven to be an amazing and talented writer. This was a fun and light read, a lot of jokes and musings about getting old. Some very shallow stories as well such as “what’s in my purse” or sth like that. Sometimes she seems snobbish, but overall a nice collection. Love the way she describes the feeling she (and everyone else) would get when reading an amazing book in our childhood, “raptured” she said. 

A collection of essays offers a humorous look at the ups and downs of being a woman of a certain age, discussing the tribulations of maintenance and trying to stop the clock, menopause, and empty nests.

I will always and forever sing Nora Ephron’s praise. She has a talent for witty, wise-cracking dialogue and there was no end to that in this compilation of honest essays about aging and love. Need my own copy.

I Feel Bad About My Neck by Nora Ephron

This is a cute read about the joys and trials of being a woman. Ephron tackles things like beauty, menopause, weight gain etc. The short stories are humorous and honest. I recommend this light read.

This started off strong, with a great introduction, funny bits and pieces and a fast-paced tempo that fires off little wisdoms like fireworks. But at the 40% point it declines into ramblings with the occasional insightful comment. The witty undertone disappears and it becomes a slightly bitter, unstructured yet careless narrative about falling in love with one’s home/neighbourhood, aging and underwhelming ‘life lessons’. Comparing this directly to one of Betty White’s memoirs I had the pleasure of reading, I’d definitely recommend those over this work.

Lately, I've been in an essay/memoir kind of mood so I had to read this one, given that Nora Ephron gave me 3 of my favorite love stories ever. This book was a walk in the park, perfect for relaxing after a workday. She's funny, observant, and accurate. The essay about falling in love with an apartment and the one about her life sectioned off into little bits that made her who she was when she wrote this book were my favorites. Although this book is written from a 60-year-old woman's point of view, it's easy to empathize with her writing and her story.

I enjoyed the second half of this far more than the first half so I’m glad I kept going. The first half of the book contained stories that were pretty much rich-privileged-old-lady ‘problems’. She wasn’t very sympathetic (comparing herself to a homeless woman in a very callous way at one point). But the second half of the book revolves more around her love of New York and it was much funnier and enjoyable.

Filled with cliches, not very funny and I really should have avoided the audio book. She is painful to listen to. But she rallied with the chapter on reading and the one on death. Still cliche ridden but touching and heartfelt. After finishing the book I immediately ordered some Dr. Hauschka's lemon bath and found a recipe for cabbage strudel.

So completely funny. 
Some comments made me laugh out loud, some made me cringe, some made me wish she hadn’t said it at all. 
It’s easy to forget when reading people are whole complicated human beings, they say the wrong thing and it’s there as immoral as when they say the complete right thing. I really loved this book. Nora Ephron reminds me of my mum so reading this felt like all the best bits of a long family car journey without being told I need a better job.
