You will spend a lot of time in the meandering thoughts of characters. You will also get great commentary on the absurdity of how we live. I particularly loved the short story about an inspirational conference. Solid gold.

Ended up half way through "Winky"'s chapter and realized that I had no clue what or who I was following in the story any more.

pastoralia, with the titular novella being the most compelling and complex, is absolutely remarkable. saunders, though not reviving the art of the short story as many say (its not dead!), was certainly making it better.
