Take your cue from nature; nothing blooms all year long so why would we bloom continuously? Winter is the natural time to hibernate, to rest and recharge, and to plan for the coming year, or in this case, menstrual cycle.

The cycle acts as a container; it's a way to know where you are and who you are, with everything you need to grow and evolve into whomever you damn well please. It grows you and it grows with you, and it allows you to come to rest more and more in yourself.

This is about your cycle. Your body. Your life. Most of us have been taught that our hormones and reproductive systems will hold us back in life somehow, but I'm calling bullshit on that because it's our cycles that will get us where we want to be in life - we've got them so let's use 'em!

The time of menstruation is your Winter. Your pre-ovulation phase is your Spring.  The time around ovulation is your Summer. Your premenstruum (the week or so before your period starts) is your Autumn.

They're also fond of describing it as phallus-like but given the fact that the clitoris in its entirety is larger than an average flaccid penis, I prefer to think of the penis as a small clitoris.

Why is it that tampons are taxed but Jaffa cakes and Viagra are not?

When we talk about testosterone as a ‘male' hormone, we attribute what it's associated with - ambition, sexual desire, and muscle mass - with men, and that does those of us with female reproductive systems a disservice because these factors are important in our lives too. Not everyone who is a woman has a menstrual cycle or womb, and not everyone who has a menstrual cycle and a womb is a woman.

Okay this book would have been five stars if it wasn’t FOR ONE THING. Firstly, it’s perfectly factual, lighthearted, educational, and not condescending. Every person w periods should read it 100%. HOWEVER. there was a part on birth control pills which seemed a bit *shamey*. She said that although the pill helps irregularity for those such as myself with pcos/endo, but it doesn’t do anything else. although it may be a fact, going on the pill has SAVED. MY. LIFE. i would not be able to leave my bed without it. My conditions were life damaging and altering. I kiss the pill before I fucking take it. Yes it comes with nausea but it has more pros than cons whereas she says it comes w more cons or pros. Each body is different, each persons needs are different. BUT aside from that I loved it. She even said people who suffer with pcos/endo should not exercise as much because it can do more damage and should stick to yoga/dance (which I do) and it was like FINALLY someone gets it. Anyway, READ IT. very educational, a must need for every womb owner.

I learned tons in this book. I think it bridges an important gap in literature and brings light to how little we know about periods (even as women). The book teaches the impact of a broad variety of aspects on periods and the reproductive system, while using inclusive language. It’s a 3 star bc i felt like it dragged on unnecessarily and went off topic sporadically with (imo) unwarranted social-political commentary. Also would advise to buy this as a physical copy, as the audiobook can get confusing with summations, recipes and other tips (though the author herself did a good job narrating).

Hugely helpful and practical book on how to care for yourself properly and deal with hormonal imbalances. I listened to this as an audiobook but think it would be very helpful to have a physical book to use as a reference book if and when issues arise.
