Updated to add: Nope, not going to finish this. I don't know why I kept reading the Wuornos section. I should have quit while I was ahead. But, Vronsky implied a lack of criminal history meant 100% a man never raped before and I almost threw the book. I'm done, don't even care about the rest of the cases. I will stay far away from any of Vronksy's work. His education leading up to his PhD is woefully lacking in the areas of understanding undocumented crimes.

I'll quote the passage that made me decide that, regardless of the remaining contents, this would receive a 1 star review.

To set the scene: Vronsky explains the Aileen Wuornos case for about 20 pages. He spends 6 pages bashing the way Phyllis Chesler, a feminist, reacted to Wuornos and deciding he needed to argue against her viewpoint. The following is the uncalled for footnote, after he called feminists flies flocking to turds.

"These days Chesler is buzzing around another turd- the Middle-East and terrorism. Her recent book is "The Death of Feminism," in which, according to Publisher's Weekly, Chesler 'takes liberal feminists to task for not speaking out against what she sees as the most important threat to Western freedom: Islamic terrorism.' We can all sleep better now knowing that Phyllis has joined the war on terrorism."

Is Vronsky a child writing on a message board? Does he think it's "cool" to hate on women and current events? Is he being "edgy?" Needless to say, his weirdly placed ad hominid argument was debased by this little footnote. Just, wow.

As far as the cases, because I honestly don't know if I'll continue reading this, they're good in information but lack actual analysis. I was expecting some kind of relationships with criminological theories to be drawn, maybe some points and connections made for patterns, but it's really just a fluffed reference book.

If you know a lot of the cases already, don't expect to be taught new information. I had already seen a documentary on Wuornos and knew everything he mentioned.
