I rated this three stars, because certain parts of the book are so excellently written that it deserves four or more. However, the plot is beyond slow during half of the book, with little to nothing happening, save for drama among the keepers, dragons and Tarman's crew. Which is important, but it gets a tad boring at some point. I do appreciate that Hobb adds a large amount of realism to the genre (which includes wonderful character development) in terms of social matters and issues within the societies she has so masterfully created. It's one of the many things that has caused me to favor her as an author. Yet, I wish the story would share its focus with the dragons and the journey they are on to a larger degree. I have high hopes for the last book in The Rain Wild Chronicles series to fulfill this.

The world Hobb has created is truly magical. Going into this quartet I was hesitant that I wasn't going to enjoy it at all because of the change in characters but I was wrong. The setting of The Rain Wilds really is my favourite place in this universe.
