finally got around reading this (a choice made entirely on a whim) after a friend kept insisting i should read it and i actually enjoyed it so much more than i expected to. it’s so funny and witty sometimes, and i really like the cast of characters + the mystery that surrounds the entire time travelling aspect. the epilogue had me tweaking and i sent a total of 72 messages to my friend yelling about it which honestly. fair and also very real of me
overall a really easy to read book with that nostalgic ya feeling, really funny at times and with a pretty interesting plot that doesn’t focus on the romance as much as i expected which felt really nice
-◈ 4.25 STARS Oh, my!! I didn't expect to like this. I loved this, in fact! Stories with an aspect of time travelling is somewhat something I'm very picky about. I don't exactly know my criteria about this kind of book myself, but I just knew I liked it when I do. And I'm very glad I ended up liking this a lot. There is so much hanging questions inside my head after reading the first book, and I found myself wanting to pick the second book up as soon as possible. Maybe I will, after writing this review. The only thing that I like less than the other things is the possible instalove between Gwyneth and Gideon. Or maybe not? Well, time travelling really confuses my mind with time.
Literally read the whole series over one weekend after borrowing it from my friend who pressured me to read these for years. Glad I finally caved, I love Gwen and Guideon with all my heart (don't watch the movies though, they are rubbish)
Sono contenta di leggere che non sono stata l'ultima a guardare perplessa la copertina di questo libro e chiedermi "sarà un nuovo young adult con vampiri? speriamo di no" e infatti, grazie al cielo, non lo è. La protagonista non è di quelle che si odiano dopo le prime dieci righe, riesce anche a risultare simpatica nella sua goffaggine e banalità, e la storia è interessante ed abbastanza coinvolgente. Sarà che trovo che le storie con salti nel passato abbiamo, di solito, buone potenzialità ed ho anche apprezzato il fatto che ognuno di loro fosse abbinato ad una pietra preziosa (cosa banale probabilmente, potevano affibbiargli un colore, un pupazzo o qualsiasi altra cavolata ma l'abbinamento con le pietre mi è piaciuto v_v). Il libro comunque rimane troppo corto per poter davvero appassionare, mettendo anche in conto che di vera azione non se ne vede affatto per le prime 100 pagine.. insomma mi aspettavo che fosse molto più lungo. Direi che quattro stelline le merita comunque, giusto perchè è un inizio promettente. Con la speranza che i prossimi libri siano più lunghi, i personaggi più e meglio caratterizzati e magari sperando anche di trovare qualche bel colpo di scena dato che in questo libro era tutto fin troppo scontato.

I absolutely love this book. Amazing concept, amazing world building. The characters are interesting. Such a great story. Would highly recommend this!
** spoiler alert ** All'inizio ero dubbiosa e pensavo fosse una di quelle storie dark con protagoniste Mary Sue o una specie di seguito di Twilight, ma dopo aver iniziato la lettura ho capito, per fortuna, di essermi sbagliata. La protagonista, a parte il nome assurdo ( Gwendolyn, che nome è? ) è "normale" e non è fastidiosa e irritante come la maggior parte delle protagonista degli urban fantasy. La storia è carina, l'idea del viaggio nel tempo, delle pietre associate ad ogni persona è interessante ma il libro è troppo corto e ti lascia un pò troppi dubbi alla fine. Alcuni personaggi sono troppo stereotipati, Charlotte sembra la sorella cattiva di Cenerentola solo più bella e Gideon fa la parte del classico bello e impossibile che fa lo spaccone per le prime 100 pagine e poi improvvisamente si trasforma in un pezzo di pane, dolce e romantico. Manca una caratterizzazione dei personaggi, che però in così poche pagine era difficile da fare. Comunque visto che ormai la storia mi ha incuriosita parecchio, aspetto con ansia il seguito!
*2.5 Well, it was a funny trashy YA! It's even funnier when you read it in 2019... Nothing really happen throughout the book but I had fun. Quite not sure about the twist (I suspect) at the end tho................
Not a bad book overall... 16 year old Gwyneth is found unexpectantly to carry the time travel gene that runs through her family. She must work with her male counterpart Gideon, to collect the blood of all 12 ancestors to close the circle. I found all the characters likeable, though I felt the main character Gwyneth read younger than she was supposed to be. (btw...the author really likes her names beginning with "g"....gwyneth, gideon, grace, glenda, saint germain, gordon gelderman, great great grandmother, great great great great grandfather....phew!). The plot itself was fast paced but I felt like I was just skimming the top of a potentially great story. Too many questions were either shrugged off, ignored when asked or left unanswered. The questions surrounding the birth of Gwyneth were resolved but really not hard to figure out. Still an enjoyable read and who knows? Maybe the questions will be resolved in the next book...I think I'll take the chance and find out.
It took me a while to get into this story. I didn't know if it was the narrator of the audiobook, the translation, or the author's style of writing. The main character came off as immature and her dialogue seemed more childish than everyone else's. Although she's 16, she comes off as a 12 year old and very naïve. The other characters' dialogue didn't bother me so I am thinking it was planned by the author. The concept of the book appealed to me and the whole time travel thing was intriguing. Despite my annoyance with the main character, it didn't dissuade me from finishing. I'm hoping there's more character growth in the next book of the series.

I love this series already :D . >>> This is the story of Gwyneth a sixteen years old teenager who lives in a family's owned house in London with her mother, siblings, grandmother, crazy grand aunt, aunt and a cousin. See all normal so far but when you know that her mother faked her birth certificate; also her grand aunt is crazy. Not surprised enough? What about that her aunt is expecting that cousin Charlotte who is being taught by an elite group all about history, art, fashion etc.. to time travel for the fist time. Now I have got your attention. Indeed she fails and the one travels is Gwyneth who close the circle of twelve time travels and her cousin's life now hers even the boy who is so handsome and good with swords Gideon. ***I was so surprised how the book with more fun and enjoyable than the film 1. Gwyneth is so funny, curious about everything. She was not that hero who accept it all. 2. Gwyneth had help of her friend and she had a wonderful loving mother. 3. The History I loved how it was so realistic and the author was easily moving between times. 4. Gideon was so charming knowing all the customs of the past and still being a modern guy. 5. The prophesies and the quotations at the beginning of each chapter.
3.5 stars I really like the idea of the story. The time travel is very interesting and the secret society is also really cool to read about. Some of the background information on how everything works (time travel, the twelve, the lodge) was kinda confusing. I feel like sometimes the writing didn't flow. The book should have been longer. I felt like I read the first 100 pages of a fantasy novel were the main character is just getting used to the world and going on a few adventures. It ended when it was starting to get exciting. I would read the second book because I think that it has the potential to be very good. I already have guesses as to how it will play out. I am very intrigued and feel like, once fleshed out, this world will be super fun to read.

Dude. This is such a cool series. I am not a fan of the last two books in the trilogy, but this one is super neat. I would definitely recommend if you like anything historical and magical.
I really like Ruby Red. Based on the cover I did not expect much from it. However, it is a very cute and interesting time traveling story. It was very addictive read (you want to know what is going on!) and makes you read it past. I really liked that the romance was not rushed, but was more of a slow build up. Gwen is a love female protagonist. In my opinion, she can speak her mind more often; her thoughts are really sassy, and since she is only sixteen she can be a bit juvenile to me. I cannot wait to read the next book. There is so much information unknown!

Ovviamente, non ero del tutto ignara di cosa sarei andata ad acquistare, sapevo che questa trilogia aveva avuto un grande successo in patria e all'estero. Dopo vari tentennamenti e ripensamenti, ho deciso di comprarla ed iniziarne la lettura. La domanda che si è annidata nella mia testolina è stata: "perchè cacchio ho aspettato così tanto?". Questo romanzo narra la storia di Gwendolyn (ma che per comodità chiamerò Gwen), una normalissima ragazza di sedici anni, che vive in una grande villa a Londra con la sua famiglia e i suoi parenti. Nella sua famiglia alberga un misterioso gene, il gene dei viaggiatori nel tempo, che permette alla persona portatrice di essere trasportata in varie epoche del passato. Secondo alcuni calcoli, è Charlotte la cugina di Gwen ad aver ereditato il gene ed ora che è arrivata al sedicesimo anno di età tutti si aspettano il manifestarsi dei sintomi tipici del primo viaggio nel tempo. Ma qualcosa non va, al posto di Charlotte è Gwen a trovarsi catapultata indietro nel tempo. Devo dire che prima di ora avevo letto solo un libro sui viaggi nel tempo, non ne ero rimasta per niente colpita forse anche per questo non riponevo molte speranze in questo libro. Eppure, procedendo nella lettura, mi sono dovuta ricredere. Essendo il primo libro della trilogia, è stata una lettura principalmente introduttiva alla storia ed ai personaggi. Non sono successi grandi colpi di scena, ma questo non significhi che abbia trovato la lettura noiosa o poco interessante. Il romanzo scorre piacevolmente e ci si ritrova a leggere per ore ed ore senza nessun problema. Lo stile di questa scrittrice tedesca mi è piaciuto molto, pur essendo lineare e semplice riesce a coinvolgere molto bene il lettore nella storia, tanto che non ci si accorge nemmeno di aver letto metà libro tutto d'un fiato! I personaggi, sia principali che secondari, sono tutti ben caratterizzati con descrizioni semplici e minimali, ma riescono a centrare lo scopo: farci entrare in sintonia con essi e vivere con loro i vari viaggi nel tempo che ci vengono descritti. Gwen è una protagonista in cui molte adolescenti potrebbero facilmente riconoscersi. Goffa, impacciata, non molto brillante a scuola, con una cugina popolare e bella che riesce facilmente in tutto ciò che fa. Eppure Gwen non vorrebbe mai essere al posto di Charlotte, che ha dovuto sacrificare la sua infanzia per allenarsi e prepararsi al suo primo viaggio nel tempo. L'ho trovata una ragazza molto forse, coraggiosa anche se non si accorge di esserlo (tipico no?). Al contrario non sopporto Charlotte, soprattutto da metà romanzo in poi avrei tanto voluto darle una padellata in testa (in stile Rapunzel per intenderci). Posso capire l'amarezza di scoprire che non fosse lei ad avere i geni, ma quel suo comportamento da ragazza superiore non riesco proprio a farmelo piacere. Gideon non riesco ancora ad inquadrarlo. Inizialmente non mi faceva impazzire, non si può certo dire che si sia presentato come un signore '-'. Però andando avanti ha mostrato anche un lato dolce, che mi ha fatto un tantino ricredere su di lui. Eppure non so, ancora non riesco a capire se mi piace o meno, so solo una cosa se si mette con Charlotte lo rovino! Il finale mi ha lasciata con un sacco di domande: qual'è il segreto che si cela dietro ai viaggiatori del tempo? Cosa succederà se il sangue di tutti i viaggiatori verrà riunito? Ma soprattutto, perchè questo misterioso conte Saint Germain sembra avercela con Gwen? Ci sarebbe anche un'altra domanda che mi frulla nella testa, ma evito di scriverla perchè potrebbe risultare altamente spoilerosa e non voglio rivelarvi troppo ;). Sono curiosissima di iniziare il secondo capitolo della saga "Blue", sperando che le mie domande trovino risposta e che non se ne aggiungano di nuove.
