This book wasn’t bad. It had some funny parts, but just dragged on a little long. Witty in some parts, funny in others, but just a little too long for me.

I really wanted to love this and for awhile I think I convinced myself that I did, but it’s just too long. With the overlapping stories and all the information given I went from steadily involved to overwhelmed. I really enjoy the premise and the first 60%, but unfortunately this just fell short for me. I found myself listening and zoning out. Narrators were fun and energetic, but not enough to hold me. I tried to read a physical copy a few months, but instantly decided to read something else. It’s giving Series of Unfortunate Events for adults.

You’ve probably never heard of the McMasters Conservatory for the Applied Arts. After all, you aren’t supposed to know about it. Because McMasters is a fancy, secretive college that teaches its students to commit the perfect murders. And to keep the college secret – and to raise the stakes – students either pull of the perfect murder… or end up dead themselves.

The story is presented as an unofficial guide to surviving McMasters. As an example of what to do – or not do – the guide follows three students trying to survive the school and carry out their revenge on their evil employers. The story is supposedly pieced together from school records and the students’ diaries.

This is definitely a story that requires a huge suspension of belief. First, there is this secret school for murder with overly elaborate training courses. And the school functions like an Ivy League school with its graduates infiltrating every top organization and supporting future generations of would-be murderers. Then there is the fact that each student goes through all of this just for one murder. You’d think this school would be training assassins “Deadly Class” style. But students are carefully selected when they have one specific target in mind: someone despicable who has gotten away with heinous crimes and deemed deserving of being “deleted.” It seems like an awful lot to go through for just one murder though. But it’s best to just go with it if you want to enjoy the story.

The second part followed each of the students as they tried to carry out their plans for their murders. While each of the murders was clever, that part of the story did feel like it loitered for too long. Nevertheless, this was a fun read.

After all, when the behavior of another person leaves you no choice but to kill them, their murder is simply involuntary suicide.

A book written in the style of journals/letters outlining a secret society/dark academia type secret university where they train you to kill one specific person--as your thesis. 

Minus one whole star for absolutely unnecessary minor homophobia/transphobia at the end which did nothing for the story and threw a big wet blanket on part of the plot and imo was some lazy ass writing from a writer who had shown they could do better for the whole book.

In a funny Harry Potter for murderers, this book follows three people who need to “delete” another person for the greater good. It’s funny and well-written, and utterly unique. I had a fun time reading and listening to it.

I really loved this book, its idea and especially the dry humour. It was a very nice and light read :)

I liked the idea and the comedy this book brought to what could feel like a serious manner. However, there were many points where I could not focus on the lengthy prose and just needed to know what would happen. The ending of this book did wrap it all up nicely though.
