This collection of three stories was very well-done, but that's to be expected from Chokshi. 

I adored the first story "Death and Night", which was a beautiful love story (kinda wish it had been in The Star-Touched Queen, but I digress). 

"Poison and Gold" gave us more about Aasha and her life after A Crown of Wishes. She's such a fun character!

And finally, "Rose and Sword" showed us Gauri and Vikram's wedding day and the challenges they faced. These two have my whole heart and I was glad to get a little bit more of them.

I'm a huge fan of Chokshi's books. I fell in love with Star Touched Queen and Crown of Wishes was one of my all time favorite books. But, I struggled a little with this one. The writing was gorgeous, as usual. And I love the setting. I just had a hard time getting into the book.

The first story felt a little slow for my taste. As much as I love all of the characters, I had a difficult time really investing in the story. I did enjoy parts of the story, though. But after I started in on the second story, I began to feel more interested. By the end, I was back to loving what I was reading. 

Now, I should say that I'm not always a fan of short stories. I have a hard time feeling fully invested in a story that is only twenty pages or so. I'd hoped to have an easier time because I already knew and loved these characters, and in the last two stories that was totally the case. But the first one wasn't as exciting for me. 

On the whole, this book was good. If you love Chokshi's other works, I'd suggest giving these a read. They're quick reads and give a nice insight into the lives of so many delightful characters.

If you are a lover of Roshani Chokshi, like myself and any other person who has read her books, then this book is one you will love. You may even love it without reading the books these stories are based on, but you will miss some of the amazingness that comes from its premise. This collection of short stories expands on The Star-Touched Queen and A Crown of Wishes to give you what you didn’t know you needed. We are given the origin story for Amar and Maya, we are given the story of Aasha as she learns to be a spy master whilst learning about humanity and then we are given the story of Gauri as an old woman looking back with her granddaughter at the day before her marriage to Vikram. IT IS EVERY FAN GIRLS DREAM COLLECTION.

If I had to pick a favourite story, it would probably be Death and Night but that is because of my personal attachment to The Star-Touched Queen (where I studied it for a year and wrote a big chunk of my masters on it). I loved gaining more insight into their story and their love is one I envy deeply (even with the tragic twists, they still find one another). I just want to wrap them all in bubble wrap and keep them treasured.

Although Death and Night was my favourite, I LOVED Poison and Gold and Rose and Sword. This collection was woven perfectly to be about love and finding one self, but also how these two themes are often interlinked. I was hopeful when I saw Chokshi had written this book because I love her work, but I am in awe after reading it. This is all you could ever dream of if you’re a fan like me! As always it has her perfect writing which is lyrical and aromatic, it has the perfect medley of originality and old myths, and it balances humour with beauty to create a story you will not forget. If you have not read any of Chokshi’s work then I recommend you read this, and her other books. She is a true wonder in the writing world!
