Charming and witty, and I loved that I got to read another of Clarke's books, (especially loved the story that crossed over into Gaiman's Faerie). But it just never felt like the stakes were high enough.

From 'contemporary' experiences of doing magic to stories of a folkloric flavour, this is a pleasingly eclectic collection of short stories that dip in and out of the universe of Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell. Every story is well-plotted and witty, promising discoveries from different yet familiar angles, and I enjoyed them all in one sitting.

A wonderful collection of short stories set in Clarke's fantasy realm that combines regency England with the world of faeries, of the dangerous, morally ambivalent kind. A great autumn read.
