I was bored and unenthusiastic about making myself finish Into the Water, so I grabbed something light and fun. My Ex From Hell was an eccentric reimagining of Greek mythology in which teenager Sophie Bloom finds out that she is the goddess Persephone incarnate. Sophie then has to deal with her unknown past, learn how to use her powers, and figure out what to do with Persphone's brooding ex. 

It was kind of like Percy Jackson for older, angsty teens. Was it silly and a wee bit ridiculous? Yes. But it certainly delivered on the light and fun angle, so I enjoyed it. There were some humorous moments and some witty banter (although that could have used a little more emphasis). There was also the combination of normal teen high school drama, mean girl bullies, and self-discovery mixed in with pissed off Greek gods and monsters. Like I said, silly but fun!

My Ex From Hell was an enjoyable that had me laughing a lot of times. 'Cause, damn, that girl's got sass. I originally wanted to pick this up because of the Greek Mythology. I'm always on a lookout for a great mythology book.

This book is about Sophie Bloom who is Persephone and how she is supposed to save the world. From the title, I thought the ex would be Hades but it's actually Hades's son, Kai. Things were quite switched around. I thought Theo was Hermes but he was actually Prometheus. This first book was more about Sophie coming into her powers and saving her friend, Cass. 

The thing I enjoyed the most about this book is definitely the humour and the sarcastic things that Sophie would say. I laughed a lot of times and I don't even remember the last book that was this funny! The adventure and super powers were fun to read as well. She took quite sometime to figure everything out and I liked that. If she just came into it naturally, I wouldn't like her as much.

As for the love interest, of course it is Kai, the ex from Hell. I actually don't like Kai much because of the various things that he did. I actually like Theo better as a love interest but I don't think that would happen any time in the future. Kai just wasn't a likable person (at least to me). He was always flaunting some other girls in Sophie and I found that really stupid and annoying of him.

Overall, My Ex From Hell is a humourous Greek mythology book that had me laughing and hanging on for more action coming. I would recommend this to all mythology fans or just anyone looking for a fun read :)

okay this is going to be really short! because i'm not one to write long reviews..
What to say about this book??? i so.. loved it!! All the Characters were so lovable! Kai..*dreamy sigh* such a bad boy!. Sophie herself was so hilarious!, and her two best friends- Hannah and theo, i want those two in real life! as my best friends! the whole journey was so much fun to read. some of the lines really cracked me up. 

i am definitely going to read the second book!!

    “See, yesterday, I was plain old Sophie Bloom. My life sucked in your typical 16-year-old ways. I was stuck here at Hope Park Progressive School on probation again (“mouthy behavior”), dealing with cliquish poseurs, rampant hormones, blah blah blah.”
  

Let me tell you, I fell in love with Sophie and this book pretty much from the first page. I found her awkward, mischievous, charming and snarky. Her inner dialogue was hysterical. I giggled my way through the biggest part of this book. The relationships with and interactions between Sophie and her friends were perfect. The characters worked together so very well. They complemented each other wonderfully.

  
    “Then I met a guy. I know that’s the worst cliche ever. But sadly, it’s true. And of course, me being me, he couldn’t just be any bad boy. No. He had to be Kai, son of Hades, Lord of the Underworld.”

Oh, Kai. I didn’t know what to think about him at first. Sure he was swoony. He’s the son of Hades, he has to be somewhat tempting. I was afraid he would wind up being a total jerk. I was very, very wrong. The more I got to know him, I found I liked him every bit as much as Sophie. The two of them together just made me smile. While they had a very unorthodox introduction to each other in this life, their chemistry and attraction was undeniable. Which, it totally should be, given their past. Sure, there were the tiny little issues of him thinking she was dead and that fact that she was just learning her true identity, but when they collided something magical happened. Or, maybe I should say something mythical.

With the help of her friends Theo (Prometheus) and Hannah, Sophie navigates the crazy day-to-day life of being a goddess in high school. Either of which would have been enough of a challenge on its own. Not only does she have an arch nemesis, she’s coming to terms with her history and future, her her new goddess powers and the fact that her best friend isn’t exactly who she thought he was. Oh, and there’s the small matter of the gorgeous god she’s crushing on. The one who just might feel the same way about her as Sophie as he did when she was Persephone. What’s a girl to do?

I’ve never had much interest in books with characters based in/from mythology. I am so very glad I made an exception and picked up this book. I adore this series. After reading some heavier books lately, this was exactly what I needed. The characters were amazing, complex and likable. The storyline was fun and dramatic and utterly unputdownable. It had the perfect mix of humor, drama and romance – just what I want in a young adult book. I’d never read one of Tellulah Darling’s books before now and I’m wondering what on Earth I was waiting for. I love her writing style. It was a breath of fresh air. Big, fuzzy hearts for her and this book!

Sophie and friends are back in the second installment of the The Blooming Goddess series and this time they have a whole new cast of mythological friends with them. Aphrodite, Zeus, Hades, Apollo, Hephaestus (Festos) and Artemis join Kyrillos (Kai), Prometheus (Theo) and our other favorites in a new story filled with the same snark, drama and romance as the first book in the series, My Ex From Hell, had. I was every bit as entranced with this story as I was the first.

  
    “Had Kai come with a medicine label it would have read: take sparingly. Side effects may include full body tingling, inability to catch a breath due to tightening ribs, and wonkyheadedness.”
  

Kai is amazing in this book. He’s even more swoon-worthy than he was in the first book. His true feelings for Sophie are starting to shine through, though neither of them are quite ready to make the jump, even with Aphrodite around, flinging arrows at unsuspecting people. Sophie handles all the ups and downs, the mythological nightmare she’s facing, with the humor and attitude I have come to expect from her. There were lots of laugh out loud funny moments in this book as well.

  
    “The ritual is us declaring our love. Not having sex.”
“No, no, no. It’s one thing to have sex. Fleas have sex.” I was gesturing madly in agitation by this point. “Love is supposed to involve choice. You can’t force people to fall in love and then hinge saving the world on it. Who does that?”
  


  
    “Get over yourself, Sophie, because like it or not, not only am I not going anywhere, I just made it my personal mission to get you to fall for me so hard, you won’t know which way is up. And I won’t need an arrow to do it!” 
  

Sophie gets some pretty disconcerting news in this book: in order to save the world, she and Kai have to admit their love for each other. She was all prepared to have sex with him in order to save the world, but love? She’s not sure she can go there. She’s not even sure she likes him. (Ok, she totally does, she’s just not ready to admit it.) But, Kai’s also keeping secrets. Who will take the jump first? Honesty when it comes to love is scary, especially when the fate of the world hinges on it.

  
    “I, the queen of being in her head, was mindless, thoughtless, and speechless. I was overwhelmed with Kai in the best way possible.” 
  

The plot of this book is so fantastic and action-filled, I don’t want to give anything else away. You really just have to read it for yourself. Get wrapped up in Sophie and Kai’s back and forth, the ridiculously adorable crush shared by Theo and Festos, the rise of the idol Bethany and all the godly Drama. (Yes, Drama with a capital “D.”) I guarantee you’ll fall in love with the characters and get as sucked in as I was. The story is unique and littered with pop-culture references that were just plain genius.

  
    “Goddesses aren’t half as challenging as humans. You drive me nuts and I still can’t stay away from you.”
  

To say I’m anxiously awaiting the third book in this series would be a gigantic understatement. This one ended with quite a cliffhanger. Whether you like mythology or not, if you enjoy a great contemporary young adult book, you HAVE to pick this series up. You will not be disappointed. With humor and heart, Tellulah Darling knocked it out of the park again!
