Quick read. Informative for novices, and helpful for basic definitions if you are newer to investing.

Summary: Buy the global market market using low-cost index funds. Rebalance your portfolio twice a year, to both maximize your stocks to bonds asset allocation, as well as to adjust for market changes. Avoid hyperactive brokers, and remember that you can't beat the market on your own.

I found the book's advice useful and motivating, and a good reference for why index funds (and ETFs) are smart long-term investments. I also liked the sample portfolio breakdowns with real funds to choose from.

However, this book was written pre-2008 — before the most recent financial crisis, and therefore might be missing relevant details relating to changes in tax and changes in financial regulations since that time. Your mileage may vary on the advice in the book based on its age.
