I could say that this book is absurd as fish, nonsensical as shrimp, wacky as squid and hilarious as krill, but that wouldn't even begin to cover it. I could try and explain what this book is about but, this being Tom Holt, the process would probably take me a lifetime or two. Those of Impeccable Book Taste (IBT™) who are familiar with and appreciate Tom Holt's slightly demented shenanigans (SDS™) know what I'm talking about. And what about those Poor Souls of Despicable Book Taste (PSoDBT™) who have never experienced said SDS™, you ask? Well they should grab one of Mr Holt's somewhat zany books post-haste, obviously.

*2.75 stars*

It took me quite some time to get through this because I felt it dragged a bit. Honestly I felt like there wasn’t a whole lot of plot and the only reason this is even getting 2.75 stars was because I really loved the LotR satire and some of the characters. Having seen the LotR movies so many times I was easily able to pick up on the references and similarities to the series and I really loved making those connections. 
Also, King Mordak was the best character in this book. An Orc King advocating for universal healthcare and equal pay and job opportunities for all orcs? What a guy. 
 The ending felt a bit anticlimactic, but judging from the pace of the entire book I wasn’t really expecting much. 

I would really only recommend this book if you’re familiar with the LotR universe.

I had some pretty high expectations going into this just based off other reviews, and while I did find some of the dialogue to be witty and funny, I was mostly just bored throughout this.
