Gritty tromp through Paris compiling numerous characters and perspectives orbiting around the protagonist Vernon Subutex. He's a recently evicted former owner of a popular record store that is using his Facebook friend list to find the next place to lay his head. Complicating matters is that Vernon has the confessional tape recordings of his deceased friend (and benefactor) and rock star which ignites a race to find the mysterious tramp. Fueled by drugs, sex, vulgarities, and right-wing politics, the novel exposes the single minded misogyny of many of its characters and delves into transgender rights, homelessness, friendship, and substance abuse. Essentially, a much deeper pool of ideas than the very engaging but "trashy" topics would suggest.

Almost seems as if High Fidelity had been written by Bukowski, but more focused on politics. Can't wait to read the rest!

Mientras leía este libro tuve una sensación similar a la de cuando me le animé a American Psycho hace poco...
Si lo interpreto como una crítica social en forma de sátira, puedo pasar por alto los ─muchos─ comentarios peyorativos y desagradables de todos y cada uno de los personajes, porque formarían parte del estilo de escritura necesario para lograr ese efecto. Como con el de Bret Easton Ellis opté por eso, voy a medir a este con la misma vara, si bien la pluma de Virginie Despentes es mucho más literaria que la de él (al menos en este caso).
Si tengo en cuenta las increíbles referencias musicales, le subiría una estrella. El tema es que mi escena preferida es la última, y tiene un estilo MUY igual a una parte de Fight Club, y eso le restaría una estrella. Este cálculo lo dejaría en 3 estrellas, pero con una gran posibilidad de que, en algún momento, lea los dos libros que siguen.
