I enjoyed this one just as much as the first in the series (even though I accidentally checked out the large print version). I love the on-going nature of the series, the big picture mystery. I also enjoy the casual references to the Series of Unfortunate Events.
The characters in book 3 are more fleshed-out-as much as a Lemony Snicket character ever will be. Also, Lemony's character lacks the melancholy of his adulthood which in my opinion makes his character more relatable. 
Even though the book is rather absurd, I love it and it actually ends up making sense. I look forward to the next book in the series.
