I saw some reviews where people claimed this novel of Willa Cather's made more of an impression on them than My Antonia... I can't say I agree or disagree. Both novels have their strengths in characters and plot, but Cather's writing in My Antonia simply blows O Pioneers! out of the water. Nonetheless, I thoroughly enjoyed escaping to this countryside world that Cather so colorfully described and I look forward to returning to it soon.

I didn't really mind the book up until the ending.
Was it slow? Yes
Was it over descriptive? Yes
Were most of the characters dull or annoying? Yes
Even with that I really didn't hate the book until the end. I was able to read the book and understand it. Even though the book dragged and was over descriptive I was able to deal with it. I was really annoyed with the characters, especially Lou and Oscar. Even Marie annoyed me at times, simply because she was just too happy. I was okay with the book until part five. By the end, I was ready to toss the book in the trash, but I didn't want to pay the school fine. I couldn't believe everyone blamed Emil and Marie for their death. Even Alex feels for Frank. I was like WHAT THE HELL! It isn't their fault they got shot, they didn't shoot themselves. THEY WERE MURDERED, and Alex wants to pardon him. How much sense does that make? Oh, and while we're at it lets blame the girl who was shot in the lung! Last time I checked double homicide was frowned upon. Frank shouldn't be felt sorry for, he got what he deserved, he murdered his own wife and Alex's brother. Considering how much she "loved" Emil you would think she would have had some resentment towards him.

Read for junior year English and still read it on occasion. 
I really enjoy reading books about the immigrants and how they tamed the west and lived their lives.

I’m shocked at how much I liked this. Kinda clumsy, but ultimately very moving and full of heart :)
