Rage

I'm curious if his other books all have the same level of hatred towards women from the main characters or if it's special because this one is domestic violence related. It seems like many books written outside of the United States have a very high level of hatred towards women. So if you don't like explicit details of domestic violence or hearing men go on and on about how stupid women in their lives are, this is not the book for you by any means.

I wish the plot was more developed and maybe focused on the case over his internal thoughts, especially towards the end. I would have thought the time between a kidnapping and discovery would make the plot move faster, reaching the climax, but it's almost like the kidnapping was the climax and everything else was a fallout. It just didn't produce a huge, anticipation driven need to finish reading the book that usually happens in such instances.

Other detriments were the continual listing of news stories at each chapter, which sometimes made sense and other times I didn't feel needed to be read. If a reader can skip an entire section and not miss anything, it should be edited out of the book.

And, while I'm usually not a fan of ending s being left open, this one not only made it abundantly esoteric as to what the characters were even referencing, and now that I think about it I might have a better idea of what he meant to happen. It just doesn't make sense to me either. I wish he had just given one quick line and been over it.

Overall not a bad read. I'm unable to remember his nationality at the time of writing this, but I got the same feeling as that from the Dragon Tattoo series for anyone wondering. Very graphic, very anti-woman, but a good story overall with some pacing issues.
