I just finished The Lake Season and I wanted to get my thoughts out. This book has consumed my free time for the last two evenings and I'm so glad to have read this advanced copy. It took me a little while to get into the early chapters involving Iris' life as a struggling and newly-single mom. Once she got to her parents' home the story really took off. Iris' struggles to be a good wife/sister/daughter/mother were instantly relate-able. As the oldest child, I could completely relate to the need to be the perfect one, the protector all of the time. I was pleased to find that Leah, who was at one point the entitled younger sister, had her own problems that were as understandable as her older sister's. Their delicate family only appeared perfect, but it was like I got the chance to peak into their homes. The romance felt on the side of predictable, but at least it wasn't overwhelming to the rest of the plot. 

I'm looking forward to reading more novels by this author in the future. Excellent debut.
