Wow...this book was incredible! 

Seriously, there was so much thought put into the plot, characters, world, and...well everything! It was so brilliantly written! I loved the new characters in it and their personalities, and the many adventures that happened throughout it that raised the stakes. And...oh my gosh...that ending! So many twists and turns that I was not expecting. If you haven't read this or the first book, what are you doing? Go read it! I can't wait for the last book! It's going to be epic!

Ahhhhh this book is sooooo good! Even better than the first! The stakes are raised so much and the characters are so amazing! I love them so much! The plot is so well done and I'm so excited to read the last book and finish this incredible series!

Incredible sequel!

Rarely is a sequel better than the first installment in a series, but I liked this one even more than I liked Sky Without Stars. This one focused more on the space part and less on the Les Mis part of Les Mis in space, which I found utterly fascinating. Would love to see novellas or other supplementary books about how the other planets in the System Divine developed into what we see/are told about. 

The best part of this book, aside from the space travel, is the new characters. Usually, a series following so many people (i.e. all the Les Mis inspired characters), doesn't need more people to keep track of, but the new additions added so much to the story. Etienne is amazing and I love the relationship he and Chatine build. I do also really like Cerise, since I'm always a sucker for characters who turn out to be completely opposite from how their first impression makes them seem. 

This one ends on SUCH a cliffhanger and is more action-packed than the first.

I said it before, and I'll say it again, authors Jessica Brody and Joanne Rendell have immense talents to create such a riveting retelling of the memorable Les Misérables. With its setting in space, it gives the household novel a fresh and unique perspective, with a host of different elements seen in the original. Exquisite writing, memorable characters, and an incredible plot makes Between Burning Worlds absolutely unforgettable.

Review: I liked this book more than the first! The character development is excellent, the ships are flying, and the world building was divine! I loved the action scenes too, they were better laid out in this one. The book is also very well written, it doesn’t feel like two authors writing one book.

However, the pacing and plot are both still so slow. I still feel like there are unnecessary events in the book that make this book much longer than needed. 

Verdict: A great sequel! Can’t wait for the next!

Okay fam. So I’m clearly not a true literature fan because I’ve never read Les Mis before, although I’ve heard of it, saw previews for the movie adaptation, saw how thick the book was, etc. I know of it. I just never read it. So that part didn’t appeal to me. BUT when the synopsis told me that it was like Lunar Chronicles?? Oh that sold me so fast I thought I was getting whiplash. I freaking LOVE that series – from what I read, yes I don’t finish series you know this – and if there was going to be anything compared to that, I knew immediately that I was going to dig it.

And guess what?

Ya girl totally dug this one.

Like, do I need to watch Les Mis or something to truly see how amazing it was? Probably not because THIS book was already amazing and wow, both Brody and Rendell blew me away. Out of this world, literally. I think they make a great author duo and I’m hoping that they can collaborate on something again.

Not only was the world-building really intriguing for me – and seriously I’ve noticed lately that if I’m not feeling the world that my characters are in (not literally my characters but you get me) then I don’t fall in love with the book as much. Which nothing is wrong with, sometimes books are more character driven than plot driven and sometimes characters can hold their own and carry the novel in a lackluster world, but that was not the case in this one. I felt like this was a world that I could see myself living in if I was born centuries later, trying to navigate and survive in. Just like our characters here.

Maybe it’s because I have a little bit of a rebellious side to me somewhere deep down, but I absolutely love seeing books where there are groups of people trying to overthrow the current regime or government or whatever bad guy is messing stuff up. Rebel groups. Rebellion groups. Revolutionary groups. I dig them all. Also rebel groups and rebellion groups may be the exact same thing – oops. I like seeing regular people band together and just get this stuff done. It makes me wish I could be one of them. Which one of the characters do I wish I was more like? I don’t know. I like the double agent aspect even though they are usually seen as bad people. Playing both sides so well that it’s hard to tell which side you’re really on? That’s impressive to me. Having someone take on a punishment because they messed up, and they handle it like they handle everything else? Impressive.

I was just really into this book and from the ending, it sounds like there will be another one? I hope so!
