Laura Wood has become an Auto purchase author for me as I have fallen in love with her writing style and the way that she is able to bring characters to life and make them appear almost off the page and this one was no different, This is a beautiful second chance romance that has a fascinating backdrop to the film industry.

The book follows Cynthie and Jack who were co-stars in a debut film 13 years ago. Tensions ran high as they had to fake a romance on and off screen. After lots of success and 13 years of not speaking to one another, they are thrown back together to film a sequel to their debut film. Cynthie’s public image is suffering so they agree to fake date once again. We know why Cynthie agrees, but why does Jack?

The story flips back and forth between present and past to give context to Cynthie and Jack’s history and how it got them to where they are today, and I loved how you can be getting to a interesting point in the present timeline and you are thrown right back into the previous timeline to see what happened previously.

What I enjoy about Laura’s writing I and have for years ss the fact that you get fully immersed in it. I don’t know how to explain it but it almost feels as if you aren’t even reading. I can perfectly visualize every scene without her being overly descriptive with her words. It’s what you want from every book!

I loved the dynamic between both characters. How 13 years ago they were both new in the industry and how unsure Cynthie was as this was her first movie. In the present she’s full of self-doubt and anxiety, seems to have lost some of her sass and bite. Younger Jack is also full of anxiety and bravado to hide his true feelings. Jack in the present day is a lot more confident but more at ease and has a softer side to him.

The behind-the-scenes looks at the film industry had me kicking my feet in happiness as they offered a fascinating glimpse into the magic of moviemaking.

If you’re looking for a funny, swoony second chance romance with great characters then this is a book for you! I can’t wait to read whatever this author comes out with next.

This was funny, tender, touching, and emotional. I loved Cynthie and Jack and was sad when this one came to an end. Going into it, I was worried that the dual POV and dual timeline was going to be tricky to keep straight, but it was handled so well, and I found the flashbacks to filming 13 years ago to be helpful in creating a well rounded view of the characters and their relationship to each other and with themselves. The side characters were also fun, and it truly felt like you were behind the scenes of filming a movie. Definitely recommend!
