Great book about building products, especially if you are starting out.
I would recommend this for all product designers at all levels!

Has really nice examples of how some of the principles that the book teaches is applied, however I do wish that Nir went a bit more in-depth on how to use these principles for good as a lot of them is very obvious how you can use it to do harm or make your users addicted to your application.

A no-brained for those interested in psychology and building products that stick. Would recommend keeping this as your companion and referring to it at different times in your product journey.

I love how using the examples in the book you find your self borrowing the concept and trying to experiment with already existing products and it actually makes a lot of sense! This is a very short book that includes a 4-step framework to create habit forming products. It also talks about a Manipulation Matrix in order to understand how to use your addictive creations power for the greater good.

Must read for Product designer and UX people in general. In addition to learning how products can hook people up, you also become educated on the topic and what you might do differently on your phone, based on your own behaviour. 

This book without a doubt makes us all think in a deep but intuitive manner about the nature of human condition and what actually ticks us from a design and psychological perspective.

What this book add to my knowledge, is the the tighten workflow of how to initiate this addiction relationship with the customer and how to maintain it.

This is very recommended for you in case you are in the process of designing a new product or service.

"Hooked" (2014) é mais um livro que procura o santo Graal do design de experiência: um modelo capaz de criar engajamento ótimo com qualquer aplicação, processo, serviço ou produto. O livro é interessante, dando conta de muito do que se vai fazendo na área, embora não aprofunde nada de novo (mesmo tendo em conta o ano de publicação, 2014), para quem já esteja dentro do UX ou IxD e tenha lido as referências da área. Recupera um conjunto de teorias e modelos, e tenta o seu mix. É mais uma proposta modelo, e como tal merece a nossa atenção, pois pode servir a determinados grupos ou para determinadas situações.

Then hopefully compels them to come back to invest more and find lasting success for themselves — and subsequently for your business, too.

The ultimate goal of a habit-forming product is to solve the user’s pain by creating an association so that the user identifies the company’s product or service with the source of relief.

The book includes a clear warning: keep in mind that manipulative tactics can be used both for good and nefarious purposes.

Building effective hooks means answering these questions.

1. What do people really want? What pain is our product relieving? (Internal trigger)
2. What brings people to our service? (External trigger)
3. What is the simplest action they can take in anticipation of a reward, and how can we simplify our product to make this action easier? (Action)
4. Are people fulfilled by the reward yet left wanting more? (Variable reward)
5. What “bit of work” do people invest in our product? Does it load the next trigger and store value to improve the product with use? (Investment)

Even though published in 2013, the Hook Model still holds up. Designers are already familiar with most of the concepts mentioned in the book. The book helps you have the vocabulary and some associated research to expand on some topics. 

Ok, now to the question of the morality of using these ideas. It has not been explained clearly or talked about at length in the book. Had this been written in the past couple of years, I’m sure the topic of morality would require attention. But it nonetheless leaves you wanting for more.

Considering the length of the book, I’d suggest going through it once. It is not too hard to comprehend, and if you go through the bibliography, you might find citations to some fascinating research, which I think is more valuable than the book itself.

After hearing Nir give a local talk at a user group, I knew I had to check out his book. It's been on my list to read for far too long. The concepts from the book a 10/10. They're a great dive into user behavior and what triggers change in people. I feel like I learned a lot, even if the book is rather short.

The downsides though - the audiobook narrator feels like he's reading a technical manual. It's just not a good listen. Looking at the Audible reviews it's non-stop 1 star reviews for performance. The other side is that this book requites a good deal of reflection time. That's not a good fit for the audio format. I felt like I learned more from hearing Nir talk live for an hour than from the book, but I still look forward to referencing it later in products I'm building.

Good book. A great intro to some of the research behind forming habits and psychology (borrows heavily from the work by B.J. Fogg) and some interesting insights about applying the findings to a real project. However, it's not exhaustive. Think of it as an 101 class on habit forming.

Ik heb het niet echt gelezen, maar het audioboek op 150% snelheid geluisterd. Wat prima is te doen omdat de basis van het boek staat op 4 pijlers die het Hooked model vormen. Als je die in de smiezen hebt, is de rest voorbeelden en uitwijden. Verder een prima model wat je laat nadenken over je eigen producten en diensten, hoe je deze beter kunt maken. 
Het boek is erg gericht op de "grote" jongens als Facebook, Instagram en Twitter. Het laatste hoofdstuk behandelt een bijbel-app, wat wel goede inzichten geeft.
