This is quite an amazing book for anybody who wants to start a small business. In my opinion, it’s the perfect book—despite me not actually reading any other book on small businesses—I just feel that this book offers great advice on startups, and gives a lot of personal stories. Well … actually, it gives too many personal stories. As I kept reading it, it felt repetitive. I was barely getting inspired. I would’ve gotten inspired if there was a magical moment in the book. That’s actually why I bore through reading up to page 171, because I kept waiting for that magical moment, but as I kept reading it more and more, I lost hope, and decided to stop reading it. The book is not all bad. There’s a lot of good advice, like I mentioned above, for anybody who wants to start a small business, but not for somebody who’s looking to get inspired to start a small business. This book gives you the steps, but not the reasons. It makes it all look easy, but it doesn’t tell you why you should go for it. And if the author’s reason for going for it is because it’s easy to start a small business, then the author should reconsider his reasons. The advice I did love in the book was in the very beginning, and of course repeats itself throughout, the ideas of freedom and value when having a small business. The author says that having a small business did not make him rich, but it did pay the bills, and give him freedom. That is something we would all love to have. To be able to have the freedom we want, not worrying about a fixed schedule job. (Not having an annoying, pressing boss is a plus). I agree very much with the author on the idea of value. Doing something you’re passionate about, and helping others, and giving value to the business is something that is really encouraging, But beyond those ideas, there wasn’t much that got me inspired to startup. I would have loved to love the book, and give it a better rating, but it was very disappointing.

Meskipun, kembali lagi ke poin awal, ada beberapa hal yang menurutku terlalu optimistis dan muluk-muluk (atau mungkin itu adalah kemudahan a la white people di Dunia Pertama.)

Apapun itu, aku perlu berterima kasih kepada buku ini atas alasan yang sudah kuberitahu di awal: Keyakinan bahwa siapapun bisa mencoba membangun side hustle yang menghasilkan.

The book was a compilation of success stories from a lot of people that have succeeded in their own business. I would not call all of them as "startups". My perception of what a "startup" is is different. By reading all the stories I had the feeling of it all being just a fiction or stories. I know they're not, but the writing was somehow too dreamy, optimistic. For the time of writing it may have been ok, but I'd prefer "slap in your face" and "work hard" perspective rather than "make your dreams come true". [reading time: 7h35m]

This book had lots of very inspiring stories of a variety of successful micro-businesses. The second half also featured more practical ideas and tips. Worth coming back to in a few years again, and it inspired me to look at how I might be able to create a product out of my service-based business.
