Prince Jones is the guy with all the answers—or so it seems. After all, at seventeen, he has his own segment on Detroit’s popular hip-hop show, Love Radio, where he dishes out advice to the brokenhearted. Prince has always dreamed of becoming a DJ and falling in love. But being the main caretaker for his mother, who has multiple sclerosis, and his little brother means his dreams will stay just that and the only romances in his life are the ones he hears about from his listeners. Until he meets Dani Ford. Dani isn’t checking for anybody. She’s focused on her plan: ace senior year, score a scholarship, and move to New York City to become a famous author. But her college essay keeps tripping her up and acknowledging what’s blocking her means dealing with what happened at that party a few months ago. And that’s one thing Dani can’t do. When the romantic DJ meets the ambitious writer, sparks fly. Prince is smitten, but Dani’s not looking to get derailed. She gives Prince just three dates to convince her that he’s worth falling for. Three dates for the love expert to take his own advice, and just maybe change two lives forever.

4.5 stars - TLDR: wauw. I did not expect this book to be what it was. Such a beautiful book and a perfect ode to love & romantic old school Black movies. Characters were great, the pace was good, the plot and story were also great.

Long(er) review: From the cutetsy love to bringing forward topics of juggling schoolwork, helping take care of a parent, taking responsibility as a teen all while having to think about college and future life. Prince handled it all so well with also voicing his needs. Danielle worked through past stuff and also handled it so well, especially after she got triggered. This was embarrissingly cute (I'm a sucker for childhood crushes). Funny how the swoon Danielle hates is the swoon that made her fall for Prince. Also, I audibily screamed at some of the things Prince did and said. This book kind of blew me away, and honestly, I don't mind reading romance if it's like Love Radio.

This book made me feel things. Dare I say that this book is damn near flawless? From the lovable side characters to the undeniable chemistry and banter between Dani and Prince to the thoughtful dates Prince planned, this book was excellent from beginning to end. Subject matters like self-love and one's passions and aspirations were explored realistically, while heavier, more difficult topics like taking care of a parent with a disability and trauma were handled with thought, care and grace.

There wasn't one thing I didn't like about this book. This is a feat in itself, since there is usually at least one thing I don't particularly like or care for in about every book I've read so far. There is no doubt that this book will be added directly to my list of favourite romances of this year, and it is a YA novel as well! Having a YA romance book make it onto my list of 'favourite romance books of this year' is just shocking to me, considering I'm not a huge fan of YA books, especially YA romances, as I'm more into adult romance.

Having read a few Black YA romances this year, I can say that none of them have disappointed me. From Charming As A Verb by Ben Philippe to Excuse Me While I Ugly Cry and Confessions of an Alleged Good Girl both by Joya Goffney and now this. A bunch of masterpieces. Excellence after excellence after excellence. Adult romance needs to really step up its game, as I haven't felt this way about a book in a minute.

Overall, this is a cute, heart-warming YA romance book that deserves nothing less than a four-star rating. Would highly recommend.

I genuinely loved daniprince sm and I’m super proud of Dani like her whole character arc?????? Like this book is such a comfort read!!!! It’s refreshing to read a book where the mmc doesn’t hurt the fmc to cause the third act break up 

This is the cutest story I have ever read in my entire life. It had me smiling from start to finish. It was so warm and soft and cuddly and sweet, I thought my heart would explode from the cuteness. I mean it’s young black love that is genuine and pure, what’s not to love? Prince and Danielle have my whole heart forever.

So pure. I love how the author addresses so many issues and the knowledge she pours out through the characters. I love the growth of the two main characters. Also reading the book with the songs mentioned during the book makes it even more enjoyable.

I thought this was a nice coming-of-age story. I liked watching the relationship blossom between Prince and Dani. I thought it was heartwarming to see how gentle Prince was with Dani and how much he respected her boundaries. The dates they went on were adorable, and I liked watching the two of them grow closer and open up. LaDelle did a great job creating these two characters who were going through things, but who wasn't afraid to ask for help when they needed it and knew that you never have to face something alone. It led to open and honest dialogue that was refreshing. I also loved the dynamic between Prince and his group of friends. It was so cute watching how they hyped one another up, but also called each other out when necessary. The letters that Dani wrote to her favorite authors were also a lovely touch. Since I'm a bit older than the targeted demographic, there were times I had a hard time connecting with what was going on, but I still think it's a good read.
