Like the first book, Storm of Locusts sits on the road narrative spectrum. This time Maggie is emotionally closer to the people she's traveling with. In this regard, I'm counting her and her companions collectively as family (33). Although the are initially headed towards the Burq for information, their final destination is in the wildlands (99) outside of Dinétah. The route, though, they take, is the Blue Highway (33) — or more specifically a series of them, starting with the "Mother Road" herself, which includes a fun philosophical discussion of I40 vs Route 66. All together, Storm of Locusts is the tale of a family traveling to the wildlands to save their home via the Blue Highway.

           "I dip the plate in one of Tó's ubiquitous buckets, this one filled with soap and water, and then into clean water for a rinse, before handing it to Aaron to dry. He rubs it down with a towel before handing it to Ben, who puts it back on the shelf where it came from."

Sigh. 

So much telling.

The style can be really aggravating, which nearly made me rate this a 3. But the story gets very interesting as it goes, and the world the author's built is fascinating.

Even more fun than the first one, I think. Dug the new characters and deeper characterization. More world building and lore. More face paced and action-packed. Love this series.

4.5 stars! This manages to kick the sequel curse and is even better than the first book! Maggie is catching feelings and I'm so here for it :') The scene that's depicted on the cover was a riot to read and I enjoyed it so much. I love that the ending teases you with the happy domestic scene at Kishmish, and then walloping you with a GREAT cliffhanger with the very next page... 

This series has been great, I would like more please and quickly thank you!

This was an excellent installment in this series! Rebecca Roanhorse, as always, astounds me with the way she mixes together Navajo legends with this apocalyptic wasteland. Maggie, our heroine, is prickly but still lovable, which I really enjoy. I love reading from her perspective, since she is, in her nature, a bit cynical, but she chooses to hope for the best.

I love the girl gang that developed in this book. More Rissa/Ben/Maggie missions please! Although I would like for Kai to join them. That was the biggest drawback of this book, that Kai was not present for so much of it. I understand the entire premise was that (view spoiler)[he got kidnapped and needed to be rescued, (hide spoiler)] but couldn't they have done that at the halfway point and then the rest of the book would just be the squad hanging out?

ANyway book 3 when? :)
