About

Afonso de Albuquerque, 1st Duke of Goa ([ɐˈfõsu ði aɫβuˈkɛɾk ]; was a Portuguese general, admiral, and statesman. He served as viceroy of Portuguese India from 1509 to 1515, during which he expanded Portuguese influence across the Indian Ocean and built a reputation as a fierce and skilled military commander.

Held-dadige scheeps-togt van Alfonso d'Albuquerque, na de Roode-Zee, in het jaar 1506. en vervolgens gedaan: behelsende de geleegendheyd, opkomst en voortgang van de koningrijken Ormuz, Goa, Malacca & C. met alle der selver steeden, rivieren, zee-havens, gebergtens en volkeren, mitsgaders hunne gewoontens, levens-manier en andere zeldsaamheden; als ook op wat wijse alle dese plaatsen met hare volkeren sig onder de gehoorsaamheyd der Portugysen hebben moeten buygen, door weder-sijds bloedige gevegten, honger, dorst, vuur-waters-nood en andere ongelooffelijke, uytgestaane ongemakken: beneffens een seer naauw-keurige aanteekening van de Roode-Zee en de daar omtrent geleegene Landen
