Barbara Knox, MBE is an English actress, best known for her long-running portrayal of Rita Tanner in the ITV soap opera Coronation Street. She first appeared as Rita Littlewood for one episode in December 1964, before returning to the show as a full-time cast member in January 1972. Knox is currently the second longest-serving cast member in the show. The character of Rita is one of the most beloved and iconic characters on any British soap opera. The actress is recognised as being one of the second longest-serving current television soap opera star in the world.
