Elinizdeki kitapta, Türk-Moğol tarihi açısından da önemli bir kaynak olan Marco Polo’nun, XIII. yüzyılda Venedik’ten başlayıp Kubilay Han’ın sarayına uzanan büyüleyici yolculuğuna dair eşsiz anlatısının en yetkin edisyona dayanan Türkçe çevirisi sunulmaktadır. Bilinen yüz kırk üç el yazmasının ilk sentezine 1928 tarihli İtalyanca bir edisyonda girişilmiştir, ama eksiksiz sentez; Profesör Arthur Christopher Moule ile Profesör Paul Pelliot’nun Toledo’da buldukları yeni bir el yazması sayesinde ancak 1938 yılında mümkün olmuştur. Mevcut el yazmaları toplamından yola çıkarak yeniden oluşturulmuş bu metin, İngilizce olarak yayımlanmış, Fransızca tercümesi ise 1955 yılında Louis Hambis’in hazırladığı edisyonda verilmiştir. Elinizde, 1955 edisyonunu esas alan, eksiksiz kabul edilebilecek bir metin söz konusudur. Aynı şekilde dipnotlar da bugüne kadar gerçekleştirilmiş çalışmaların bir tür sentezidir.
