
Oğuz Atay
About
He was born in İnebolu, Turkey on October 12, 1934. He went to elementary and middle school in Ankara. Atay attended Istanbul Technical University where he majored in civil engineering. Later, he became an associate professor at Istanbul State Engineering and Architecture School (now known as, Yildiz Technical University) in 1975.
Atay is widely known for his 1972 novel Tutunamayanlar(The Disconnected). Throughout his career, Atay wrote several novels (Tehlikeli Oyunlar, Bir Bilim Adamının Romanı: Mustafa Inan), stories, a play and diary. He suffered from a brain tumor and died on December 13, 1977. Atay had been working on two novels before his death (Eylembilim and Türkiye'nin Ruhu). 40 pages of Atay's last, unfinished novel Eylembilim (Science of Action) was published in his book Günlük without any changes in 1987. 11 years later from his death, new-found 74 more pages of his last work were republished in 1998 under the title of Eylembilim.
