A Throne of Swans

When her father dies just before her birthday, seventeen-year-old Aderyn inherits the role of Protector of Atratys, a dominion in a kingdom where nobles are able to transform at will into the bird that represents their family bloodline. Aderyn's ancestral bird is a swan. But she has not transformed for years, not since witnessing the death of her mother - ripped apart by hawks that have supposedly been extinct since the long-ago War of the Raptors. With the benevolent shelter of her mother and her father now lost, Aderyn is at the mercy of her brutal uncle, the King, and his royal court. Driven by revenge and love, she must venture into the malevolent heart of the Citadel in order to seek the truth about the attack that so nearly destroyed her, to fight for the only home she has ever known and for the land she has vowed to protect. Written in rich detail and evocative language, this is the start of an irresistible, soaring duology about courage, broken loyalties and fighting for your place in the world.

Some parts were a bit boring, fast-paced, or confusing, but overall it was a good easy read and was enjoyable.

A different take on a fairytale-like story with dark secrets and intrigue. I enjoyed reading it although it was rather expectable at times, but in the last chapters it got more and more interesting and the ending as it was, was quite unexpectable. So I def want to read the next part once it comes out! A great easy read with original aspects and an intriguing end!

“There is nothing but me and the wind And the wind and I belong to each other” A Throne of Swans follows Aderyn as she comes to terms with the loss of her father, her change in position and her journey through recovery. This book contains love, loss, betrayal and shapeshifters. Yep, shapeshifters! Aderyn is from a family of nobles who have the ability to transform into swans, but throughout the book Aderyn fights with the secret she’s kept for years, a secret her father hid her away for before his passing. Aderyn has lost the ability to shapeshifter into her swan form. Those who cannot transform are known as “flightless”, the flightless are stripped of their nobility and forbidden to rule, and as the protector of her dominion Aderyn cannot risk that secret being uncovered. The writing in this book was beautiful, and the fact that it was written by two sisters but still flows so perfectly adds to its beauty. I have never read a book by two authors where you cannot identify who is writing and when and I found that incredible, that two sisters and more so, two writers can have such a bond that their words and writings fit so seamlessly together. The world and the story was built to an astonishing standard. At times the different dominions confused me but I felt like I understood by the end of the book. I adored the plot, everything about this story was a huge journey. The plot was so well built up too, the twists were shocking, I genuinely didn’t anticipate the story following the path it did. I just can’t properly put into words how much I adored this book! I’m so excited for book two, I miss this world and these characters so much already!

The story was pretty good, I really like court intrigue plots as well! It was a nice read, and I really liked the world building and the idea of nobles that can fly as birds and that the common folk are referred to as flightless... and the division between the two classes was pretty cool and I hope that will be explored further in the next book! Aderyn was cool and okay as a main character. She wasn't annoying and had a personality that could be described as noble and just. But I really must admit that it was hard to connect to any of the characters, probably because of all the telling - not showing and the fact that the dialogue between friendly characters were pretty formal (which fits in a way, as this is court intrigue in a way)... The romance... was bad. I kinda wanted to rip the book apart when it that scene came. Like.. it was so sudden, and with no background??? Like, Aderyn might have thought of him a few times like someone who has a crush would... but... then they just go smooching each others faces like that... 🤯 it kinda destroyed it for me... I thought they would be better friends first. (Slowburn for the win :D) Maybe it will get better? And I might have felt lightly distressed for then anyway when everything went wrong at one point. The villain(s) was kinda nice though, although it wasn't THAT shocking. However, it was executed well in my opinion. And I LOVED THE END. Because... happy yet tragic ends are the best? (no, not a spoiler)

** spoiler alert ** This was an amazing fast paced book. I didn’t think I would enjoy it as much as I did. This book had the right amount of drama, unexpected plot twists and amazing characters that have really made an impression on me. The way the story flows is just amazing and it is so easy to follow along. I have been in a reading slump for around 2 months and this was the perfect book to bring me out of it. I did only vote it four stars because the cousins too lovers relationship at the end was rather uncomfortable for me personally. I would read any other books in the series but, unless the relationships change, I can't see myself blown away. Would 100% recommend to anyone looking for a quick and easy read that is guaranteed to keep you wanting more.

I was lucky enough to receive a proof of this title, and the synopsis had me from the start! I was very excited, and this book did not let me down! I enjoyed this immensely, and I absolutely can't wait for the next book!

This was a really nice read, and would have been 5 stars for me if it wasn't for a sort of love triangle which I wasn't as keen on. But the rest of the plot was really interesting and I adored the characters.
