A Wrinkle in Time Movie Tie-In Edition

A movie tie-in edition to the upcoming major motion picture, now including an introduction by director Ava DuVernay. In 1962, Madeleine L’Engle debuted her novel A Wrinkle in Time, which would go on to win the 1963 Newbery Medal. Bridging science and fantasy, darkness and light, fear and friendship, the story became a classic of children’s literature and is beloved around the world. Now Disney is taking it to the silver screen! With an all-star cast that includes Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, Chris Pine, and newcomer Storm Reid, the major motion picture bring the world of Wrinkle to life for a new generation of fans. This movie tie-in edition of the timeless novel features the complete, unabridged original text; an introduction by the film’s director, Ava DuVernay (Selma); and eight pages of photos from the movie. This title has Common Core connections. Praise for A Wrinkle in Time: "One of America’s most beloved stories." —Andrew Liptak in Kirkus “A coming of age fantasy story that sympathizes with typical teen girl awkwardness and insecurity, highlighting courage, resourcefulness and the importance of family ties as key to overcoming them.” —Carol Platt Liebau, author, in the New York Post “An exhilarating experience.” —Kirkus Reviews “This imaginative book will be read for a long time into the future.” —Children's Literature “A Wrinkle in Time is one of my favorite books of all time. I've read it so often, I know it by heart. Meg Murry was my hero growing up. I wanted glasses and braces and my parents to stick me in an attic bedroom. And I so wanted to save Charles Wallace from IT.” —Meg Cabot “A book that every young person should read, a book that provides a road map for seeking knowledge and compassion even at the worst of times, a book to make the world a better place.” —Cory Doctorow “[L'Engle's] work is one of the things that made me a writer, a science fiction and fantasy fan, an avid reader. Hers were the first books I read that mixed math and magic, the quest and the quantum.” —Scott Westerfeld “A Wrinkle in Time taught me that you can tackle even the deepest and most slippery concepts of physics and philosophy in fiction for young readers. It's a great lesson for all writers, and a tough tesseract to follow.” —David Lubar

(2.5) Well, you can understand my review as this is a children's book. It was still enjoyable but lacked some character connections and the plot was way too easy. I have read other children's books and it was way more complex and interesting than this book. Overall, it was okay.

One of the worst books I've ever read. Then again, fiction is not usually my cup of tea, so this review is a bit more biased than usual. The main character, Meg, wins with the gift of love. in a sci-fi novel. It was very cute. But for a sci fi novel, this lacks the very scientific means to make sense. It started well - moving in the fifth dimension, a physicist for a father, and then went into the realms of beasts, guardian angels and.... I'll stop there.

I enjoyed this quick read. The ending was satisfying and the characters were so lovable.

To be honest, this wasn't my favorite as a kid. Despite my love of fantasy, I found this one to be too weird. Well, as an adult, I believe weirdness is an asset. This is a book with art, science, literature, math, and plenty of heart. Never forget that the things that are different about you can be your greatest strengths.

Enjoyable but forgettable. I had a vague memory of a single scene that I recognized halfway through, otherwise no recollection of plot or characters since reading this as a kid. I think it’s one of those things you had to have loved as a child (doesn’t hold up against adult science fiction, leaves too much unexplained, etc). Also, nothing makes me speed read quicker than angsty teenager outbursts.

Something happened when I picked up this book for the second time, I found myself really enjoying it. Where I was merely entertained before, I was finally, wholly amused and in love. Meg's tenacity was no longer on the verge of grating, but now I saw it for what it was, a fierce spirit that would NOT give up on those she loved and what she believed in. My advice to you is to walk away, give this one some time, and try again. Maybe a different mindframe will help refresh this story for you. Wonderfully fantastical, and coming of age at the same time. 4.5 stars (upgraded from 3 stars)

I have to first say this is the first book I have read in half a day. Now for the review on this book. I gave it 5 stars and I have to say the book is way different from the movie. From what I found out it’s a series at a total of 8-9 books. Will I continue on with the series?? You will have to see in the future lol.

I appreciated the shiftiness of the genre of this book. It’s different from much of what I read. The whole family listened to this one on audiobook. The narrator is excellent. Good but not great storyline. I rarely think a book should go longer, but I wish that this book was longer to develop more at the end. Felt like the climax happened and then the story dropped off a cliff.

First time reading this. As an adult it's an enjoyable enough read and I can see how later authors were inspired by this award winning book, but I believe it would be more captivating for kids.

A fun, fast paced adventure through time and space. I thought "A Wrinkle in Time" was exciting and had important messages embedded in an epic tale.

It's rare that I don't have much to say about a book. It was thankfully short, but largely nonsensical and the characters didn't behave the way any actual person would. Perhaps I ought to have read this as a child.

I really enjoyed this. I just felt like some plot points were a bit too fast and convenient for me. I think this will make a stunning movie so I can't wait to go see it. full review: https://jelkelenaerts.blogspot.be/201...

It's a classic. Really good. I want to give it to a 13 year old niece, but I don't have one of those at the moment.
