ok so this book is weird in its own way! but I liked this book because it had a different setting and a different kind of relationship between the two main people of the book: Amy and Elder! Aside from that I could never imagine living in a place where there is only a doctor and only one person in charge of everyone and everything!! Now i cant wait to read the second book of this triology!

I really enjoyed the book. I particularly enjoyed the writing and the dynamic between Amy and Elder. I liked the secrecy of it and how Amy and Elder had to know those secrets. 4.5 stars.

Jeg var rett og slett hekta fra første stund. Det var mye som skjedde hele tiden og den var utrolig spennende til tider. Historien fenget meg også veldig, siden jeg synes det er veldig spennende med verdensrommet, framtiden, nye planeter osv. Alt var veldig detaljert og godt beskrevet, så det var lett å føle at man var ombord på Godspeed sammen med Amy og Elder. Og når den store hemmeligheten kom ut, så følte jeg også at jeg var berørt av den. Utrolig bra! Et lite trekk for at av og til var litt forvirrende med stadig skifting mellom Amy og Elders synspunkt…

This took me completely by surprise by how good it was. It's very suspenseful, well-written, has good characterization and some very fascinating mysteries. The dystopian world-building of this generation ship's society was also top-notch. What I enjoyed most was the page-turner thriller writing - there was not a single boring moment and my eyes were glued to the page.

I did have a few small quibbles: some of the science wasn't entirely correct I think. Why did this not bother me? Because it would have seemed incredibly petty to point out pretty irrelevant stuff while I was so gripped by the emotional power of the moment: I was simply more interested in how people felt about what was happening than in being pedantic about some inaccuracies many readers wouldn't even notice.

Another quibble was that I was able to figure out some of the mysteries faster than the characters did, which of course isn't ideal. But they were never so dense that it was annoying, it felt more like one of those horror movie scenes in which you want to shout at the screen "look behind you!! no, don't go there! don't trust him!". Some of the reveals did genuinely surprise me, and what was most surprising was that this odd dystopian society did actually make perfect sense and that it was so understandable why it had been set up this way (although really horrifying).

A quick word about the marketing: one of the covers and its categorization as "YA" make it look as if this was a YA romance meant only for people who like pink sparkles - it's not. Any male readers hesitant about picking this up: don't worry, this is not a romance and you'll be just fine. Instead, this explores really interesting topics such as leadership, how to control a volatile population trapped in a very difficult situation, how and why a normal person might become a dictator, what the reality of the process of cryo-sleep might feel like, historical revisionism, and a lot of other cool stuff I can't mention if I want to avoid spoilers.

The concept was interesting, there are some good twists, but I feel like there was something missing and I'm not sure what it could possibly be.

It also felt kinda weird how some things happened out of nowhere sometimes. I don't know, it felt like a really okay book, but nothing more. I might read the next one to try and get closure on some subjects, but I won't be reading it because I'm super excited about it, that's for sure.

Though I will say that that last twist was good. It makes it almost like a prophecy happening, how Eldest mentioned those three reasons for discord, and now guess what? They're all there when shit goes down! That was good. I liked that.

I didn't like the whole Season concept, but I guess we really are meant to feel the way Amy does in this place. Everything is weird and doesn't make sense, and I'm sure it'd anger me if I was there to see it all first hand.

Still, 3 solid stars from me and nothing else.

Across the Universe is the first a YA SciFi trilogy and it's nothing like I have ever read before. It's told between alternate POVs. Amy and Elder. Amy is frozen, set to be awake in 300 years but one night she is woken and is determind to find out who did it and stop them from awaking more of the frozen. Elder, the next leader of the Godspeeds helps Amy unravel the truth, all the while hiding a secret of his own.

At first I didn't really like the book. I found it to be a very slow starter but I was intrigued enough to keep on reading and I am so glad I did because this did a complete 180 and I ended up hooked and falling in love with story, setting and characters.

Amy and Elder are two very unique characters. Amy who is thrown in to this new world on the ship is scared but brave at the same time. She will stop at nothing to find out who is trying to kill the frozen. Elder is head strong and knews his in own mind. And that makes him different among the majority of the people on Godspeed. The connect between the two is a very nice and fitting one. It's not lovey dovey and it take a back seat to the story. There also a few other interesting characters, such has Eldest and Harley. Eldest is the leader of the ship and omg I hated him with a passion. He is cruel and ruthless. Harley, oh he is sweetheart. Loyal to both Amy and Elder.

Across the Universe is very unique and a first for me. I have never read a book set on a spaceship before and after the rocky start I didn't expect to enjoy it as much I did. I was really intrigued by Godspeed and the history behind. Beth is just such a fantastic writer that with her words you can really feel that you there on Godspeed with the characters. I felt the emotions from the characters jumping from the pages. I could see everything as clear as if I was watching a movie. Beth just has a way with words.

The biggest thing that really got me hooked was the mystery part. Following the characters as they unravel secrets from past and present and trying to find the killer on the ship.And let me tell you I was NOT expecting it! And the ending OMG wasn't prepared for that! I am really excited for A Million Suns and I highly recommend Across the Universe who likes there stories a little bit different.

I wish I could give this 3 1/2 stars. I enjoyed it a good bit. I'll definitely be reading the second book in the series soon.
