Use your grey cells, Hastings!

Badtrip na badtrip lang ako kay Hastings sa book na 'to.

Anyways, everything in this book is "mind-blowing," and every time I turned the page, all I wanted to know was who the true murderer was (like sino na talaga??). Pero 5 stars because this book joins the ranks of my favorite Agatha Christie novels.

Lodi pa rin Poirot! 🫡

I can't help but compare this book to the David Suchet tv adaptation and the book comes up short, especially without Hastings's hapless charm. My general feeling is that while the novels are vastly better than the tv versions, the short stories suffer in comparison.

A good, but not great, collection of murder mysteries to pass the time. I think Dead Man's Mirror was the best in the bunch and felt like a classic Poirot story.

3.5 Stars Murder on the Links is the second Hercule Poirot novel. As with the first book, the story is being journaled by Poirot’s sidekick, Arthur Hastings, after the fact. The case starts with an urgent request for help from a French millionaire. Poirot and Hastings arrive to find the man has just been murdered and proceed to look for answers. The story also features an antihero – another detective whose abilities are said to rival Poirot’s. The two go head to head as they both strive to solve the case. The mystery itself was ok, but not one of Christie’s masterpieces. It kept me guessing, but it’s the sort of mystery where the reader is not given all of the information so there is no way to figure out everything on one’s own. And all the while, Poirot swans around looking at clues no one else (including the reader) could see and declaring that the solution is obvious. It’s no wonder many have called Poirot pretentious. Despite that, the mystery would have been at least four stars except that one of the twists depended on some massive, unbelievable instalove. It really brought down the story for me. It was too implausible and out of character. But overall, it was still an engaging little mystery. RATING FACTORS: Ease of Reading: 4 Stars Writing Style: 4 Stars Characters and Character Development: 3 Stars Plot Structure and Development: 4 Stars Level of Captivation: 3 Stars Originality: 3 Stars

Murder on the Links (like most Christie) is smart and satisfying! You can tell this is very early Christie but it is still a very enjoyable story. Murder on the Links was as different from its predecessor as that had been from Styles. It is very French; not just in setting but in tone, Agatha admitted that she had written it in a "high-flown, fanciful" manner. She had also based the book too closely upon a real-life French murder case, which gives the story a kind of non-artistic complexity. Ultimately, this story is about the dark secrets of the French aristocracy and how individuals confuse love and money. Poirot is, as usual, a bit pompous and it is fun to see him go up against Monsieur Giraud of the Sûreté (who leads the police investigation and resents Poirot's involvement). This gives this serious mystery a little air of humor that is much needed. It is a quite enjoyable Poirot story

Je ne me lasse jamais d'Hercule Poirot et des ses aventures. J'en ai lu certaines de nombreuses fois et j'ai vu leurs adaptations à la télévision et au cinéma mais leur lecture me donne toujours autant de plaisir:)

Agatha Christie is the absolute best when it comes to the Red Herring: enough hints to pull you in without so many clues as to make it obviously a false road. I was completely duped, and it was great! Plus, I did actually figure out a few things which made me feel good about myself hahaha Definitely one of my top Poirot stories!

Why is Hastings even a character and why is he even a police officer when he literally doesn't know anything. I feel like Poirot solves the case in a matter of hours and spends the rest of the book trying to help Hasting's figure out what happened without telling him anything. The first half of this book I was quite bored, I did enjoy the second half of this book, I liked this book because I wasn't able to figure out what happened.

Oh Agatha, how I loved this book! Such a great read, I can't find words to describe how much I enjoyed this read. It is my first read, and wow. I just adore Poirot, he is so funny and the way he speaks, the way he looks and acts, I just have a good time reading his stories. The plot is simply marvellous, one surprise after the other, so layered. I had to wait till the end, when the culprit was found, to understand what happened. I loved the setting, an isolated house near a small village is the perfect place for a murder. The thing I wasn't a fan of is the romance. I really don't care about Hastings as much outside of his role to give involuntary suggestions to Poirot, so the love story with the girl was really uninteresting to me. The good part was that she played a role in the investigation, so I did not feel too bored and it did not spoil the book at all. I found it funny how Giraud was a bit of a dig at some other detectives that hunt around for small traces, namely Sherlock Holmes. I admit I do love him, but I found the mocking of his method quite funny, Poirot was so outraged at times and the whole challenge was so satisfying in the end. I am not sure why this book is not as famous as many others, because it is definitely a great one that goes on to my favourite books of all times.

This might be the third of fourth time I read these short stories. I have this book in paperback, but then I also have a bind-up of all of Poirot's short stories, and that's where I read this book this time around. For Murder in the Mews, I had a very good memory of the mystery and could remember most of it. As for the other three stories, I could remember a little less, just a few details. While I was not very surprised when the culprits were revealed, I still could enjoy these stories very much. I particularly liked Triangle at Rhodes, for me it was very entertaining and I liked the setting. By the way, I am Italian and didn't know that Rhodes once was part of Italy for a period of time!

One of Christie's first Poirot cases, and clearly not her best. I mean, it's still cool and interesting, but... If you're a fan of mysteries and read/watch them often, don't even pick up Murder on the Links, you'll guess every plot twist a chapter before they actually happen. I mean, I have, and I've read like five mysteries in my whole life. The story was still enjoyable, but mostly if you focus on how Christie pieced it together and how much knowledge and research went into it. On another note, I am going to throw Hastings out the window. YOU'RE A PAIN, MAN. Full review to come on the blog.

The tone of this is just fantastic. At every turn our hero Poirot has a little joke with the famed Parisienne detective, the snark is an art in itself. And still our narrator who is mainly a companion of Poirot’s is oblivious and sometimes insulted by allegations of his ignorance. But they’re all extremely well-mannered about it. The mystery twisted and turned and became more complex with every page but Poirot and his little grey cells figured it out in the end ofc. So sad for our narrator who keeps falling in love at the drop of a hat though.... Also, it is worth noting that Poirots head is described as being shaped exactly like an egg tilted a little on its side! What!!
