These BBC audio books, available through our local library's Overdrive subscription, are fantastic for weekend drives. We have really enjoyed them, though the variation in volume due to actors moving about the stage is distracting, since we have to adjust the volume.

The best of the four books just read. Quite a decent play at the supernatural and the scientific to overlap the much obvious by creating an environment and clouding the mind. Its right in front yet you fail to see. Lovely read.

The murder part is quite easy and simple. It's the covering up that's so difficult. I mean, why should it be anyone else but you?



... if you can't go out to everything, then everything must be made to come to you.



Is there no such thing as an evil man, then, who can be described as great?



"Come, come," said Venables. "I really can't go along with this modern playing down of evil as something that doesn't really exist. There is evil. And evil is powerful. Sometimes more powerful than good. It's there. It has to be recognised - and fought. Otherwise -" he spread out his hands. "We go down to darkness."



"Will machines take the place of men eventually?"

"Of men, yes. Men who are only units of manpower - that is. But Man, no. There has to be Man the Controller, Man the Thinker, who works out the questions to ask the machines."



Evil is not something superhuman, it's something less than human.

Now this is more like it! Back on the murder mystery train with plenty of creepy supernatural stuff and a fiendishly clever death-for-hire operation (fun fact: this book helped expose a number of real-life would-be killers after readers recognised the symptoms of those targeted matched the fictional victims'). 

PS: this also includes a character based on someone Christie knew in real life so I'm totally counting this as my July read.

4.5 I really enjoyed this one actually, some of the ruminations were very poignant or filled with hilarity, but there's some elements which are lacking that would give it that five star feel
