5 Stars ★★★★★ HI BOOKLOVERS, I love Alex's story. It's fun to read, I like how it turns out to be like not I expect but it was good. I'm sure some of you have already read this so I'm not going to put long review. Those who love Hockey Romance you guys need to read this. Highly Recommended! :) xoxo, Kath!

This review was originally posted on Addicted To Romance Alex is the first book in Bennett’s Cold Fury Hockey series. This is the first time I have read a sports romance from this author. I have only read her erotic romance so I was very curious about these books and frankly, I have become addicted to hockey romance lately. I found this book to be very fantastic and WAY better than I was expecting. In fact it just might be one of my favorite sport romances and one of the best books I have had a chance to read from this author. There is something very unique about this author and how she pens a romance. In this story, we see some difficult issues brought into play and so I do want to warn future readers that its not a light and fluffy romance because that is just NOT Bennett’s style in any way. Now Alex begins with our hero who is being a very bad boy. Alex is a jerk at times, alright most of the times. He does have his friends on the team of course, but he has a “no care” attitude especially towards the fans. The management of the team are very upset with his attitude and manner and want to change what he is doing or his career in hockey is over. They want him to change his manner towards the fans and also to be in a partnership for a drug outreach program for kids. As much as he doesn’t want to do this or change who he is and even though he hates hockey….its the only thing he has ever known which is where our heroine enters the picture. Sutton Price, has been working in a program to help children and teenagers deal with drug abuse in the home. Sutton has personal knowledge and understanding. Her father is a drug addict and became very abusive when her mother was away. Once her mother found out the truth though, they lived in shelters until her adoptive father took them away from that life and showed Sutton a home that is full of love and laughter. So Sutton has risen above just painful experiences and become a better person for it. She is really excited to be helping out with an outreach program which has been her dreams as she is a counselor. At first Alex is rude to her, but Sutton is calm and cool with him without being insensitive. She understands him more than he realizes. Alex and Sutton have some powerful chemistry, but Alex knows that Sutton is the real deal, and he wants to court her and show her how genuine his interest in because he sees her differently than any other women in his past. The trust is slow but their desire for each other is real and they are honest about who they are and what they expect. But sometimes the past can get in the way of the present and future happiness. I Simply adored Alex SO MUCH. Now I gave this book such a high rating because I have NO complaints about this book. It really just worked for me in every way. This was an audiobook so I first want to mention the narrators for this story. It had dual POV, so there were two narrators and they both did a SUPERB job. In fact, our female narrator, is one of my favorites to listen to, she hasn’t done too many books though but I love her voice and inflections. She is just lovely to listen to. They both worked so well together and really displayed the love story and the emotional reflections in such a positive way. Alex is a story that deals with some challenging issues like abuse, drugs, alcoholism. So its really just not easy at its moments. But to be honest, its not overshadowed by all these complicated issues that we don’t see too much in romance. There is a endearing love story, and such charming characters. I especially gravitated towards Sutton’s family. Her parents are just wonderful and her younger brother is AWESOME. His character makes you want to be a better person and really look at yourself and see if you can be more like him. I just wanted to cry all these happy tears whenever he entered a scene, because his character feels SO real. It isn’t very often that we have a supporting character that you feel so much emotion for but I really admired this kid that is so full of gratitude and so humble. The actual romance that develops between Alex and Sutton is slow in some ways. Because Sutton is full heart and open with Alex. But Alex, has his own demons that he has to fight but thankfully Sutton knows how to handle him when he gets into his “jerk” mode. She truly sees him and understands him and I love that. She doesn’t judge him or anything, even when he hurts her because she understands why and I loved how accepting she is of Alex. Alex is slow to trust, because everyone he has loved and trusted has abandoned, abused or criticized him except for a few of the guys on the team. So he isn’t one to be fully open with Sutton but he does make an effort and even though he makes his own mistakes, he learns from them and becomes a hero you can cheer on. Overall I found Alex to be a tale that is full of complexities, a unique relationship dynamic and charming scenes to make you full of happiness!! AN AWE INSPIRING EXPERIENCE OF A READ!

Copy received via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review ★Book Basics★ Genre : - Contemporary Romance Series : - First in a yet to be completed series Writing - First person Dual POV Main Characters : Hockey star Alexander Crossman, is the player the fans love to hate. He gets the job done, but that is it. His teams management have had enough of his bad image and are determined to do something about it and make him volunteer for a drug programme to reach children. Sutton Price, is a newly qualified social worker, who has no clue about hockey or who Alex is. But she is determined that the programme she is to form with Alex will be a success. Love triangle? - (view spoiler)[No - there is another "love interest" to start but there is no question about it going anywhere. (hide spoiler)] Cheating? - (view spoiler)[No. (hide spoiler)] HEA? - (view spoiler)[Yes (hide spoiler)] Would I read more by this author? - Yes Rating - 5 ★Review★ I have to say, I loved this book. Both main characters were great, but it was very much Alex's book. I loved Sutton, but for me, Alex had the biggest change and growth here, and I just found myself falling in love with him so much more. And I loved Sutton for him. They were a great couple. The pacing and growth of their relationship was excellent. And I am glad the author avoided (even though I worried it would be added) the oh so predictable in romance plot device of the "HUGE MISUNDERSTANDING" where one of the main characters, usually the heroine happens to be hiding behind a wall/tree/life-size statue of Yoda, right as the Hero is kissed by another woman, and runs off just before the hero pushes said other woman away! None of that here! It is very much a character/relationship driven story, and any issues come from the characters themselves and their feelings of unworthiness/guilt/self hatred etc. And Alex, Alex is a man, not afraid to admit when he was wrong. In fact, this book has one of the best bits in a book ever, and it just made me love Alex and his story more. A hugely enjoyable 5 stars for me.

Find this review and more at kimberlyfaye reads . I love sports romance books, but until now I've stuck mainly with football-centric ones. It might be that I've been disappointed by other (*cough* baseball *cough*) books in the past or because football is my favorite sport. It might be all of the above. But, Alex is the fourth hockey novel I've read and I am totally in love with this genre. And I don't even watch hockey. Apparently that's not a requirement. I do, however, have a new appreciation for hot hockey players. Yum! But, Alex is far more than your average sports romance. It's a great story about facing your past and not letting it define you, tearing down your walls and moving forward. The characters and their development are what makes this book standout from the rest. Sutton is my favorite type of heroine: smart, feisty and determined. A counselor at a drug crisis center, she works hard and cares deeply about those she helps. Her career is going well, her personal life isn't quite as peachy. She's had some relationship drama lately and isn't really looking to get involved with anyone. She's very close with her family. Her biological father is a mess. He's barely in the picture. Her stepdad is a wonderful man and he, along with her mother, make for a great support network. Sutton and her younger brother Glenn are close. He's a good kid. They might not be wealthy, but one thing she never wanted for growing was love and support. In short, she's a real woman and the type of person I could be friends with in real life. Alex is the MVP (most valuable prick) of the Cold Fury hockey team. He's hot as hell, talented on and off the ice, driven and weighed down with baggage. He might be a talented hockey player, but he hates the game. He can blame it all on his father. He isn't a particularly good man and wasn't a good father. He was abusive with Alex while he was growing up, all under the guise of making him a better player. He's manipulative and an alcoholic. Not exactly a role model. Yet, even though he knows all this, Alex still lets his dad get in his head. He's never gotten over his past and it's made him a bitter man today. After Cold Fury's front office gets annoyed with Alex's attitude problems, he gets assigned to help form a youth outreach program. The person he's assigned to work with? Sutton. The attraction is immediate, but Sutton doesn't want to do anything unprofessional. Alex just doesn't do relationships. He can't afford the distraction. What begins as a simple business collaboration starts to become something more as Alex lets down his walls and lets Sutton get close to him. Sutton helped Alex fall back in love with hockey and he helped her get over her ex and find herself again. No romance is complete without sexy times (holy hot!) and a good dose of drama. This book has both. It also has a fair number of feels and an ending that totally melted my heart. Sawyer Bennett is at the top of my auto-buy author list. I need to find the time to go back through her backlist, because I know I've missed a lot of great books since I just discovered my love for her about a year ago. I have a copy of the second book in this series, Garrett, and it's taking everything in me to not break down and read it right this second. But, if I do that it will be one seriously long wait until the third book comes out, so I have to spread out the awesomeness of this series. Do yourself a favor and check this one out. Hockey fan or not, you'll love it. I received a copy of this book from the publisher, via NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.

Originally posted at Booklovers For Life I’m becoming a bigger and bigger fan of Sawyer Bennett’s! This is only the second book I’ve read by her, but I’m definitely going to go out of my way to read more of her books. They’re so addicting, sexy, and fun! Alex is Sawyer Bennett’s next upcoming release, and I had so much fun reading it. I highly recommend it for contemporary romance lovers and sports romance lovers. Alex is the first book in the Cold Fury Hockey series, a series about the members of the Cold Fury hockey team. I know next to nothing about sports, but I freaking loooove sports romances. I don’t know why, but this genre just works for me. I always enjoy myself when reading a sports romance, and Alex was no exception. It’s a sweet, sexy story about a compassionate woman who shows a man who’s never had any love in his life how to love. Alex Crossman is, to put it bluntly, a jerk. Abused all his life by his alcoholic father, Alex has a heart as cold as the ice he plays on. He has a career playing a sport he hates and he has a ton of bitterness and resentment holed up inside him. But his attitude problems have consequences – he needs to clean up his act or he won’t be able to play. To restore his public image, he’s to be the spokesperson for an anti-drug abuse campaign. Alex thinks it’s simple enough, but when he meets the woman in charge of the campaign, nothing is ever the same. Sutton Price loves what she does as a social worker. She’s a counselor for drug abuse patients, so she’s put in charge of the anti-drug abuse campaign. What she never expects as the spokesperson is a man who fires her up like no other. When I look up, I’m momentarily stunned speechless by what may possibly be a mirage. It has to be, because seriously. . . It’s beyond belief. He’s beyond belief. In fact, he’s beyond my imagination. Sutton and Alex have an instant, hot chemistry when they meet, and while Alex wants to pursue where the chemistry will lead, Sutton is hesitant because of the business aspect of their relationship. She knows why he’s the spokesperson for the campaign, though she doesn’t seem to see Alex as the cold-hearted man everyone else does. “So, what’s your deal? Are you the team’s bad boy or something?” “Something like that,” I mutter, not willing to expound on the millions of reasons I’m sitting here. “Apparently I have a bit of an attitude problem.” Then Sutton does something that I don’t think I’ll ever forget as long as I live. She smiles at me, in a mischievous way, her eyes going more gold than green. She’s so fucking beautiful in this very moment, my breath actually catches. “I can deal with attitude,” she says with a wink. “Makes things interesting.” Alex and Sutton are friendly and flirty, and soon, as they spend more and more time together on the campaign, they become more familiar with each other. Sutton sees more to Alex than meets the eye, and Alex warms up to Sutton, teaching her the ways of hockey, and inadvertently falling back in love with the sport himself. These two were really just the sweetest – I was smiling so much throughout this book. I loved seeing Alex and Sutton grow close together, and I loved how both of them changed something in each other for the better. Our faces just inches apart, he tells me softly, “I lucked out when I met you, Sutton.” The change in Alex after meeting Sutton was so sweet to read. She teaches him about love, how he’s capable of loving and worthy of being loved. It’s not easy for Alex to accept all this, but Sutton is the perfect girl for him. She doesn’t back down from him and she’s so sweet to him. I fell for their romance – it was the perfect combination of hot chemistry and sweet romance. I definitely recommend reading this book!
