Waiting for the Flood Spires, #2
Reviews

A simple short story that is beautiful and touching, showcases Hall's exquisite prose well.

Alright, I'm not okay with this story being over. I want more time with Edwin. *sobs* Just watch this one become my favourite book out of the Spires Series. It'd be just like me. 🙄🤣

I've read a couple of reviews to see what other people thought of this book, and a lot of people came to the conclusion that this book - and/or this author - is not for them. Well, unlucky for some, but this book was definitely for me. I listened to it performed by Alexander Doddy and, although I feel like I did read this book a few years ago, the performance lent the main character, Edwin, such nuance that it almost felt like an entirely different experience. I loved the little details of history, the hyper focus on words, and the really well fleshed out small cast of characters. The characters avoided being too cartoonish, yet the author was sparing with unnecessary details of non main characters. The dialogue was believable, but I think only because I had a good handle on who the main characters were. So I'd say if you like a slow build, and you like characters that get caught up in their heads, and you like slightly poetic books - then you'll likely be like me, and like this book. (And I definitely recommend the audio version!)
